Whether you're leaving a job to move on to a new opportunity,
Into retirement or starting a new project,
Or whether you're being made redundant or reaching the end of a contract,
It's important to honour the transition from one phase of life to the next.
As we close one door and open another,
It's important to take time to reflect on what we have learned,
The people we have met,
And the connections we have made in this phase of our working lives.
This will enable us to move forward to the next phase freely and lightly,
With an open mind and a grateful heart.
Now pause.
Breathe in.
Hold the breath.
Exhale and let's begin.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
In your mind's eye,
See yourself entering your workplace.
See the building.
Hear the background noise.
Feel the energy of your workplace all around you.
Notice how you feel.
There is no need to analyse or change any feeling which arises.
Just notice it and allow it to be what it is.
Take another deep breath.
Visualise your workspace.
This may be an office,
A desk,
A classroom,
Or another space where you spend most of your working day.
Take time to bring to mind the sights and sounds,
To notice the small details.
Make yourself at home in this space.
Take a moment to greet the space and the objects in it.
You may wish to move around the space in your mind,
To pick up an object which has special meaning to you.
Take some time to do this.
Take another deep breath.
Think about the work you have done in this space,
The things you have achieved.
Bring to mind projects you have worked on,
Daily tasks you have completed.
Congratulate yourself on doing this work.
Take a moment to thank yourself for the work you have done,
To honour your commitment to tasks which were assigned to you.
Now bring to mind your closest coworker.
It may be your boss,
Your assistant,
Or another person with whom you have shared a close working relationship.
Visualise them entering your workspace and standing face to face with you.
Look them in the eye,
Greet them by name,
Thank them for the role they have had in your work.
Express your gratitude to them for what they have given you,
For the moments you have shared together.
Now repeat this process for your other close coworkers.
These may be members of your team or department,
Regular clients,
Or others with whom you have worked closely.
Visualise each person entering your workspace and standing face to face with you.
Look them in the eye,
Greet them by name,
And thank them for the role they have had in your work.
Express your gratitude to them for what they have given you and the moments you have shared together.
If there is someone with whom you have difficulty working,
A difficult colleague,
A demanding boss,
A tricky customer,
Repeat this process with them.
Then,
As far as you are able,
Offer them your forgiveness and a blessing.
You can do this in whatever way feels natural to you.
If you are not sure how to do this,
Simply look them in the eye,
Address them by name,
And say I forgive you and I bless you.
Visualise them offering this forgiveness and blessing to you in return.
If this feels too difficult,
Take a deep breath and notice what you are feeling.
There is no need to analyse or try to change the feeling,
Just notice it and allow it to be what it is.
Now,
It's time to leave your workspace.
Take a moment to look around you and bless the space.
You may do this in any way which feels natural to you.
Visualise leaving your work building.
Stand outside and bless it as you leave.
Take a moment to offer gratitude for the lessons you have learned,
The skills you have acquired,
And the people you have met.
If it has been a difficult time,
Offer gratitude as far as you are able for the lessons you will learn in the future.
Take a deep breath,
Exhale out of the mouth,
And let go.
Now visualise a door in front of you representing the new phase of life you are about to enter.
Pause on the threshold and offer a blessing to your future.
You can repeat this out loud or silently in your head.
May I do good work.
May I make good connections.
May I bless others and be blessed.
May I continue to learn and grow.
May I be blessed in everything I do.
Take a deep breath,
Exhaling out of the mouth.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes and walk into your future.
