Thunderstorms,
Heavy rain,
Shocks of lightning,
Tornado warning,
2am and we find ourselves scurrying through sheets of water.
Pulling open the hatch and descending into the basement.
Safety.
Just enough for us to fit.
4 of us and 2 dogs.
Some crouched.
The ceiling not hot enough.
This keeps us safe.
There's always a place where we can go and secure against storms.
On this 39th of 40 days,
This hits.
I need to take shelter.
To secure oneself.
Storms arise without notice.
It can be scary.
Coming to the end of something and facing the change.
The storms of unrest that threaten.
But you have insurance and assurance.
You've collected all the things that you need.
You've prepared the ground to remain stable.
Take shelter in the moment.
But pay attention to the illuminations that come through those flashes of lightning.
Those shocks of brightness show you that finish line and the new horizon beyond.
An artist's job is to pay attention to the world.
I say not just pay attention.
But take these shocks of illumination and transform them through our brush,
Color,
Voice,
Pen.
To translate meaning to the others along the road with us.
This is the gift of attention.
This is the purpose of knowing your purpose.
And this is the pleasure of holding those selected tools in your hand and using them in your unique way.
As the sun rises through distant clouds,
And the rain still splatter the ground.
Climb out of your security.
Ascend from that safety zone and know you have what it takes to face the storms.
And get ready to step over the threshold.
Awaken creative.
