For this exercise we're going to do a little bit of mind-traveling,
Creating a place in your imagination where you feel relaxed and at peace.
To begin,
Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down and close your eyes.
Start by imagining what your safe place would look like.
This can be anywhere in the world or even in an imaginary place,
Inside or outside.
Really see it in your mind's eye.
Bring in some colours that you find comforting.
Notice what the floor is like beneath you and what's around you in this image.
If you were there,
What could you see?
Be as specific and creative as you like,
Trying to paint a mental picture in as much visual detail as possible.
Now think about what you might be able to hear there.
It might just be a deep silence,
Or perhaps there are other sounds you can imagine that would be pleasant and add to the safe experience in this place.
Perhaps sounds of water,
Birds,
Wildlife,
Trees,
Even maybe people far away,
Or some favourite music or instrument playing.
Now imagine what it would feel like to be there.
What would you be able to feel?
The breeze on your face,
The ground beneath,
Soft furnishings,
Comfortable clothing.
Actually feel into some of those things that are there,
As if you can sense them there on your skin now.
And now smell and taste.
Create any pleasant aromas.
Imagine a favourite food or drink,
Smelling it,
Tasting it.
Creating a full five-sense experience of safety and relaxation.
Giving your brain a picture of calm and safety.
Really imagining yourself there,
What it would feel like to be completely at peace in that place.
Nothing to worry about,
Nothing to do but enjoy being there.
Stay as long as you like,
But make sure to remember this place so you can come back anytime.
Whenever you're ready,
Come back into the space around you and open your eyes.
