Sound Bath Sessions 213: Fiona Pau
I met Fiona at The Yoga Lane studio in the Sai Ying Pun area where the city thickly folds down a steep slope. The studio is accessed via the public stairway beside the building. The half-basement space meant that we got the unique sounds of both the ambient sounds along the adjacent stair as well as the deep double-thumps of passing vehicles within the space. As we started a bit after lunch, you can hear the noise grow during our recording session as the workers began their afternoon shift. Later on when editing, I was surprised that the background noise complemented her sessions and only a little editing was necessary to preserve the mood and emotion. This track is very pleasant and quiet. It is interesting how the swiping of the bowls sound like distant construction matches the tone of the space and integrates what would be thought a distraction as part of the experience. I loved the way the bowl drone swallowed the outside world and then revealed it again as it faded away.
