On the moon,

A guided meditation for sleep.

Hello and welcome to this guided meditation for sleep.

As we begin,

Please put on your comfortable clothing or pyjamas,

Set an alarm clock in case you need to wake up by a certain time in the morning.

And as you do so,

Begin to let go of any thoughts about your day,

Letting go of stress as you begin to settle in for the evening.

Also take a moment to jot down any tasks or appointments you need to remember upon waking.

This is your time to create a sleep atmosphere that is relaxing,

Peaceful and safe.

When you are ready,

Get into bed and let yourself lean back against the pillow.

Your eyes drift shut and you feel the darkness envelop you,

Soothing and warm.

Notice the softness of the mattress underneath your back.

Notice how your sheets and comforter rest against your whole body,

Draped gently against your skin.

Allow yourself to let go of what you are thinking about,

Just for a little while.

At this moment,

The only thing that matters is letting your body relax and your mind soften.

You are preparing for a deep and restful sleep.

As we continue this meditation,

Let go of any preconceived ideas of what falling asleep feels like.

And simply let yourself drift through the sensations and ideas you encounter.

If you feel you need to roll over during this meditation,

Let yourself do so.

This is not the time to try to force your body and mind to your will.

Now is a chance to let go completely and enjoy the sense of peace and safety that only sleep can bring.

Your waking life is filled with self-discipline and carefully controlled schedules.

Your resting life is a chance to drift and to feel,

To be at ease with whatever you encounter.

So as you become more calm,

More relaxed,

Let go of the need to find a certain outcome.

You are safe and open to the possibilities of a beautiful experience.

Breathe.

Your body relaxes a little bit more,

The lines on your forehead smoothing,

The hunch in your shoulders melting away.

Your body is reaching its ideal temperature,

Settling you in for a night of safe,

Peaceful rest.

Feel the way the sheets and blankets hold your body's heat against you,

A blanket of life giving warmth and relaxation.

Notice the way the air flows in and out of your lungs,

Dissolving tension and washing away any stray thoughts that present themselves.

Everything here is serene.

As you grow more relaxed,

You begin to feel yourself floating upwards,

Moving effortlessly through anything that gets in your way.

Soon you are floating along high above the treetops.

You are safe and no harm can befall you,

So allow yourself to enjoy this experience.

Below you,

You can see the golden blur of automobile headlights on the streets,

The flickering brightness of television sets and neon signs.

You are warm,

And your breath flows easily,

Protected from all harm by the music and sounds of this meditation.

With every breath you float a little higher,

The ground fading to a patchwork quilt lit by a crescent moon.

You feel drawn to this moon,

The celestial body that affects the flow of the tides,

And know that in the course of the next few minutes,

You will continue your journey towards it.

But for now,

There is no rush.

Feel your body floating higher and higher,

Thoughts from your day left far below.

With every breath you grow lighter,

No longer weighed down by tension and pain.

Let yourself drift upwards,

Passing through gauzy clouds and drifting ever closer to the moon.

When you are ready,

You may touch down on the powdery surface of the moon.

It is grey,

And behind you,

The universe is a deep,

Inky blue peppered with stars.

It would be easy to think of this place as monochromatic,

Black and white,

But there is more to it than meets the eye.

If you look closely,

You can see swirls of purple and gold,

Entire galaxies you may visit in the spaces between waking and sleeping.

You do not need to understand what is here in order to experience it.

Allow yourself to be open to whatever might present itself,

And wherever you may be called.

Above all,

Allow yourself to feel the endless rhythm of your breath,

Your weightless relaxation in this place far above the earth.

The gravity on the moon is low,

And each time you take a step across its surface,

Your whole body is buoyed up to the air,

Only to drift back down like a leaf floating in the breeze.

In fact,

Moving across the surface of the moon is more like walking through water than air.

Your body is weightless,

Freed from every burden by the weakened gravity.

Your movements are less precise and more graceful here.

Try doing a cartwheel or spinning like a ballerina.

In this place,

Your body can move with elegance and ease,

Freed from all pain and limitations.

You are free to play,

To experiment,

Even to float peacefully in this place,

Face lit by a hundred billion stars.

Below you,

The earth is a vast tapestry of greens and blues,

Of pale clouds swirling across an infinitely varied background.

Parts of it are dark,

Resting,

And other parts are lit up with the glorious golden warmth of the sun.

This earth has existed for many,

Many years,

And will continue to exist for many more,

Slowly turning,

The moon its constant companion on this endless circular journey.

You are a part of the earth,

But you are a part of the stars too,

A being at home on land and amongst the galaxies.

Take this time now to reconnect with your intuition and become conscious of any places or experiences that call out to your soul.

In a moment,

The spoken part of this meditation will end,

And you will be free to journey wherever you want to,

Hiking through an asteroid belt or floating on a tropical planet nearby.

Wherever you go,

Know that you are safe.

Let your experiences,

Not your expectations,

Speak to you as you begin this trek into deeper relaxation.

Enjoy.
