Hello,
Welcome.
We're going to practice a short Zen meditation called Serene Reflection.
It is a very simple practice.
So I just want to say a few words and then I'm going to guide us through.
And there'll be plenty of pauses,
Plenty of space.
Okay?
And it's intentional.
But we'll drop in a few pointers.
Zen likens the awareness.
To that have been similar to a mirror.
So we have a mirror.
And a mirror just reflects.
It just sees and sense,
If we use our imagination a little.
It doesn't?
George Wurtz saying what's reflected in it,
It doesn't condemn,
It doesn't chase after,
It doesn't grasp.
No opinions,
Judgments,
Anything.
It's just.
It's unreactive.
Serene reflection is allowing ourselves to be more mirror-like.
Like unreactive.
At least we see our reactions,
How we grasp onto thoughts,
How we might push away a certain emotion or want more of a different emotion.
How little British comfort my.
.
.
Upset.
.
.
We're just here with life as it is in a very.
.
.
Let's say serene way because the mirror in a sense is serene.
Being unreactive.
That's around about 12 minutes at 10 minutes.
Take a couple of deep breaths.
That's it,
Just arrive in the present moment So we are just.
Seeing,
Knowing what appears.
To the senses.
So thoughts appear.
Sensations appear.
Just notice,
Just feel them.
Sounds appear and then disappear.
Very simple.
Not complicated.
So you'll notice that you grasp onto thoughts and into their world When you notice that,
Just drop them.
Just open the fist.
Of attention as it were.
And I'll just.
.
.
Dissolve in our own sweet way.
Just being the mirror.
Where exertion is necessary.
You're already being.
You're already present.
Find you're straining to achieve something,
Just relax.
Take a deep breath.
Relax.
The striving is just another appearance in the mirror.
I need to label what appears.
That's not it.
You see it,
Feel it,
Hear it.
Just being this very moment.
Without striving to be.
Is more simple than simple.
Listen to the silence.
Where's your attention right now?
Does any discomfort you feel?
And if it's so uncomfortable,
Obviously move.
Not doing any harm to ourselves obviously.
Let your mind be like the mirror or awareness be like the mirror or the sky.
Sky doesn't grasp onto the clouds.
Opened free.
The clouds of the thoughts.
That's it.
This is all you need to do.
It'll take care of everything.
It'll take care of itself.
It's an undoing.
It's not a doing.
To non-ravelling.
We stay here rather than forever going into mind,
Into the story's narratives.
The hearing,
The feeling.
With what's really happening.
Simple.
I'm going to bring this session to a close.
If you've got your eyes closed,
Just open them.
Have a little stretch or whatever you want to do.
It's not that this meditation isn't about going deep.
That's not the meditations I teach particularly.
Of freeing us from the incessant living in mind.
Self-centered thinking.
So thank you.
Bye bye.
