Welcome.
Today we are going to talk about a very interesting topic.
So sometimes we feel really unfocused,
Really foggy in our lives.
And.
I'm going to pull from my experience as a professional organizer.
Many years ago,
I was an organizer for about four or five years,
And I would go into people's houses with them.
And we would work either on a specific room,
Multiple rooms,
Or an entire house.
And during that time,
That's actually what led me into becoming a life coach and eventually meditation teacher,
Reiki practitioner.
Because the part that I loved about organizing was helping people to get clear in their lives.
And The correlation between physical clutter and mind clutter is astounding.
And so.
When I worked with people in organizing their space,
The result the expression of relief that they had.
By clearing the clutter in their homes was so rewarding and I thought that this would be an interesting track.
This would be an interesting,
This actually came up in one of my lives the other day as well,
Just that sometimes we get overwhelmed within our minds,
Within our physical spaces,
And we don't do anything.
We just freeze.
And so I'm going to give you kind of this neat little hip or.
.
.
I don't know,
Organizing 101 track so that you may experience some clarity,
And I'm going to relate it to a home.
So we're gonna we're gonna talk about if you are living in a chaos,
Disorganized space,
And how it may be affecting your mind.
So when we think we're going to use one room.
So we're going to pick a room.
That may be just full of clutter.
And what I have always done when I've worked with people is I always tell them,
Okay,
Your first step is all we're going to do is we're going to go through.
The things and see what it is that is not supposed to be here.
Because a lot of times when this clutter buildup happens,
It's because people will just put things down.
So if they're in the bathroom and they're brushing their teeth,
And then maybe their child calls them into the kitchen and then they're finished brushing their teeth and then they put the toothbrush down in the kitchen.
Instead of walking back to the bathroom and putting it back.
Yes,
It takes a little bit of effort.
Yes,
Sometimes we have to walk a few extra steps to put things back to where they belong,
But Once you get to kind of that clean slate,
Place,
Then you can implement these new rules,
If you want to call them rules,
But these new practices,
There's a gentler word.
So you can basically retrain yourself and know that.
The tidiness,
The beautiful environment that you live in is maintained by simply putting things back where they belong.
That's a very empowering thought.
And so let's walk through what it would look like.
So let's take a bedroom,
For example.
So say you walk into your bedroom and you have a really messy dresser.
You have clothes stacked everywhere.
Maybe you have books piled in different sections.
Perhaps there's like a random treadmill in your room.
I don't know.
Maybe you have.
Any variety of things.
I always tell people,
You're going to start from one side of the room and you're going to look at the room just like it's a like a rainbow spread out in front of you.
So you're going to start seeing on your left side of the room.
And if you are thinking about,
Oh,
There's my dresser on the left side of the room,
I really need to reorganize the top of that.
You're going to take everything off the top of that dresser and you're going to put it onto the bed or the floor,
Probably the bed.
Get it up off the floor.
So that's your first step.
You're going to do that.
You can take everything off the dresser.
If there's things under or around the dresser,
You're going to move them to the bed.
You're going to basically make like a sorting facility.
But here's the thing,
You're gonna only work in one section at a time.
So you're starting from that left side.
So if you're looking at all the stuff that was on the dresser,
You're gonna give it a little wipe down,
Get rid of any dust or anything that's going on.
And then you're gonna create what you want the top of that dresser to look like.
So taking things perhaps that you've removed from the top of the dresser that are now on the bed,
And you're gonna put back only the things that you want.
The way that you want it to look.
You're not going to worry about what you're going to do with the other things for now.
You're just going to leave those on the bed.
So you're going to replace the things onto the dresser.
How you want them to appear.
Perfect.
Once that's done,
You're going to keep moving along.
If there's something,
I don't know,
Maybe there's a chair in the corner and you've got a bunch of clothes piled on that.
Going to take those clothes.
And you're going to put them on the bed.
And next,
What you're going to do is you're going to go through those clothes.
Okay,
Number one,
Are any of them dirty?
Do they need to be washed?
Laundered?
If they do,
Put them in the laundry basket.
Step number one.
Step number two.
Are any of these able to be put away,
Whether it's folded or hung up and put in a closet?
Or have you,
Are some of them ones that maybe you've wanted to donate or give away?
So take any of the donations,
Ones that you want to give away,
And simply put them outside of your room in the hallway for now.
Just chuck them right there.
Hang up or put away the rest of the clothes where they belong in that dresser in the closet.
Okay,
So now you continue around the room,
Leaving any of the other stuff,
Not the clothing,
But any of the things from the dresser still on the bed.
If you have bags on the floor,
If you have any just random items that are laying around as you are moving and doing the scan around the room,
You're going to add those items to the bed.
And yes,
It may become quite chaotic on that bed,
Depending on the level.
Of clutter in your room.
And so you're going to continue moving around the room and tables.
Clearing the tops of those,
Putting them on the bed,
Giving them a nice little wipe down.
If you want to go through the drawers,
You can do that.
Empty those out.
When you are conquering each area,
Same as before,
You're only going to replace the things on the end table or the dresser,
Whatever spot you're at,
With what you want there.
Leave everything else on that bed.
You're going to keep moving around the room,
Gathering.
If there's more piles of clothing,
You're going to do the same thing as before.
Pile those on the bed,
Go through them.
Put the things in the laundry that need to be laundered.
Donate the things that you want to give away.
Hang up or put away the rest.
So you're going to continue moving.
Maybe you have piles of paperwork and you know that they belong in the office or in a filing cabinet.
If anything in this room,
If you come upon things that don't belong there,
I want you to take them,
Doesn't matter what that other room looks like.
So let's use an example of paperwork.
So if you have a huge stack of crazy paperwork in your bedroom,
That needs to go into the office,
You are going to physically take all of it and walk it to the office and put it in the office.
And then you're going to leave it there.
It doesn't have to look pretty.
You're just sticking it in there for now.
Then you're going to come back.
You're not going to get off track.
You're not going to look at the office and think,
Oh,
I want to do this in here.
Nope.
Get back to this bedroom.
Then you're going to move to the next spot and you're going to keep moving around.
Maybe you come up with the books.
Maybe you look at some of the books and you think,
You know what,
I'm actually never going to read this.
I'm going to donate this.
I'm going to add it to one of those free libraries or drop it off at a used bookstore or see if any of your friends or family wants any of them.
Then whatever's left over,
Just make one area.
If they're books that need to be read,
Put them all in one spot.
If they're books that you have read and you just haven't put them back on the bookshelf,
Go put them on the bookshelf,
Whether the bookshelf is in your room or in another room.
Walk,
Walk,
Walk,
And go put those where they need to go,
Leaving one pile of books to be read if that's the case.
Okay,
Continuing around the room,
Picking up any other things that may just be randomly dropped and laying around and adding those to the bed.
So now once you have all of these things,
All of these items off of the floor,
Off of the countertops,
You've replaced the things so they look nice,
Now you have a pile of crap on the bed.
So now your next job.
Is to sift through the things on the bed.
Are they things that maybe you've held on to because you were given them as a gift and you've never actually really liked them,
But you felt obligated to put them up because someone gave them to you that was a family member or a friend?
Now's your chance,
Guilt-free,
To put them in a donation box and get rid of them.
So that's option number one.
Option number two,
You may find garbage around.
Maybe you have kids or maybe you have a spouse or maybe you yourself or you're kind of lazy and you just drop garbage around rather than putting it in.
Clean all that up,
Put it in the recycling or the garbage.
Get that dealt with.
Next step,
Things that are left over.
So you're going to check that whole pile and you're going to see,
Okay,
Is there anything that is in this pile that actually doesn't belong in my room?
So same as before,
You're gonna take them and bring them back.
If you have like a blender in there for some reason,
Go put that in the kitchen.
If you find,
I don't know.
A rake,
Go put it in the garage or the shed in the back.
So kind of put things that don't belong back in the places.
Put the garbage,
Put the recycling,
Put the donations.
Whatever is left over,
You need to decide where it goes.
So is it maybe something seasonal?
Did you forget to,
I don't know,
Put some Christmas decorations away?
Or did you forget to switch your spring.
Floral.
Arrangement to a summer one.
And so now it's just the spring and you have a storage bin where you keep your spring decorations or your holiday decorations.
Go put those back.
Yes,
If you have to climb into your basement or your attic and find the bin and put it in there,
Do it.
Go do it.
Then,
You basically will do this until everything is done.
Has either been put away or categorized into one of those areas.
And so what you should be left with is a beautiful room.
Ready for a real estate agent to walk in and say,
Oh,
You don't need a stager.
You could totally sell because this house just looks ready.
This is like the super simple fast forward version,
But ultimately that's how simple it is.
You do one room at a time.
If your whole house is like this,
You simply move room to room.
I recommend working between one and two hours tops when you first start doing this,
Especially if you have an entire home or reach out and connect with a professional organizer,
Someone or a friend or a family member.
Who's really good at organizing,
Who can work with you.
If you can't and you want to battle this on your own,
Throw on some music,
Get a podcast going.
Just get something that's going to keep you motivated,
Keep you moving forward.
And work.
Throughout whatever room and just take that same kind of perspective,
Those same steps working around that room in a circle.
Refiling things where they go.
And I guarantee Once your physical space is clear,
Your mental space will also begin to clear.
When we have clutter and items everywhere in our homes,
Our subconscious mind just looks at those in the background and is constantly saying,
Oh,
I've got to do this.
I've got to do that.
It's like a gigantic to do list.
And so our conscious minds get a little bit foggy or muddy,
Because they aren't operating at this optimal level.
Because the subconscious mind is going.
Constantly.
I've got to do this.
I've got to do that.
And it's just this,
It's,
It's crowded.
It's too much.
So when we can kind of alleviate that constant to-do list,
That constant inventory taking,
So that your space is beautiful,
Well then,
The rest of your thoughts have room.
The rest of that space is clear.
And that's when the creativity,
That's when the clarity,
That's when all the brilliant ideas come in.
So Jump in there.
Get that clutter out of there.
Get that mind clutter out of there.
And yeah,
Watch how you soar.
Thank you so much for being here.
I hope this helped.
Sending you lots of love and namaste,
Peace and awesomeness to you and yours.
