The River of Life To enter this guided meditation,
Find a time when you will be alone and undisturbed for a while.
Sit or lie down,
Whatever you wish.
Just ensure that you are comfortable.
Close your eyes and allow your breathing to become relaxed.
A soft chime will indicate both the beginning and the end of the session.
You are standing on an old bridge.
It's stones worn by time and weather,
Gentle and rounded,
Warm in the sun.
It arches over a river that runs clear as light over a gravelly bed.
A fish hangs in the current,
Its tail waving,
The light running over the spots and speckles on its body.
The air is full of the scents of summer and water,
Creating a fragrant perfume as you cross the bridge and pass through a small gate that leads to the riverbank.
The ground is dry under your feet.
The banks of the grass cut short for fishermen.
But there is no one around except you.
These spread their four-leaved branches above you,
And you walk through patches of light and shade.
Except for the song of the birds and the ripple of water,
There is no other sound.
The land drowses under the eye of the benign sun.
You come to a wooden bench close to the water's edge.
And sit down.
The river glimmers past you like some fluid,
Clear green jewel,
Forever in motion.
The waterweed shimmers out in long strands,
Like a mermaid's hair tugged by the flow of the current.
Further upstream,
A great old willow bows its leafy crown to the water.
Two swans glide into view,
White as snow.
Graceful and serene.
One by one,
Cast all thoughts which do not serve you out into the river,
To be carried away and dispersed.
Touch them unravel,
Break apart,
And disappear from your view.
The irresistible force of the river carries them away from you.
Allow yourself to drift into the peace,
Part of the water which flows ever toward the sea.
Like you,
It is part of a greater whole that does not exist in some other time and place,
But is present now in all its power and beauty.
Let yourself absorb its energy and abundance,
Its clarity and renewal.
Imagine it bringing new thoughts,
Wonders,
Miracles into your life,
Even as it carries away the old.
Spend time thinking of all these things.
Envise them coming into your view,
Carried to where you sit,
Waiting for them.
Reach out your hands to draw them to you.
No wish,
Idea,
Or desire is too big or too small.
When you have gathered all your desires to you,
And have let them rest within your mind,
Simply relax for a time.
Rest within the peace and beauty of your surroundings.
Let yourself be absorbed in the peace,
Part of the water which flows ever toward the sea.
