Hello and welcome to number 31 of your daily presence.
Originally,
My intention was to do 30,
Which are live and available on Insight Timer.
And when I finished,
I thought,
You know what?
There's some relevance to the number 40.
And so here are some notes that I've accumulated on the number 40.
It's mentioned 146 times in scripture,
And the number 40 generally symbolizes a period of testing,
Trial,
Or probation.
It's also a very special number in numerology that is often associated with change,
New beginnings,
And fresh starts.
40 is the only number in English whose letters appear in alphabetical order.
Minus 40 degrees or 40 below is the only temperature that is the same in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.
When the Bubonic Plague gripped Europe during the Middle Ages,
Ships would be isolated in harbor for 40 days before passengers could go ashore.
The Italian word for 40 is cravanta,
Hence the term quarantine.
There are 40 spaces on a standard Monopoly board,
Proving that life is a gamble.
The game gives players equal odds,
One in 40,
Of going directly to jail or winning the free parking lottery.
40 weeks is actually the typical time for a full-term pregnancy.
It took chemists 40 attempts to develop the magical spray we have come to know as WD-40,
And the full name is Water Displacement 40th Formula.
In literature,
40 is the number of thieves Alibaba clashes with in Arabian Nights.
And 40 is also the number of winks that Dr.
William Kitchener suggests taking for a perfect nap.
And again,
In religion,
40 seems to be shorthand for a long time.
Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness,
Being tempted by the devil.
The Great Flood lasted 40 days and 40 nights,
And the Jewish people wandered the desert for 40 years.

My own experience with 40 is in one of my original Unity classes,
The Prosperity class,
In which case we needed to commit to 40 consecutive days of creating prosperity in our lives through prayer,
Meditation,
And journaling.
And so the course that I offer here on Insight Timer,
Awakening to Your Infinite Abundance,
Also suggests that you complete the course as a 40-day continual practice.
And so with that in mind,
I have chosen to extend your daily presence to 40 days.

Begin to settle in and notice your breath.
And when I say notice your breath,
I really mean be aware of the inhalation,
Be aware of the exhalation,
Following your breath through each part of the cycle.
And as you settle in and do this,
I invite you to allow these words to be your words.
The divine in me sees the divine in you.
I am grateful for this loving awareness,
And I am holding it firmly in my thoughts and in my heart.
