Key 14,

The Zimmerman.

He never thought he'd get a Zimmer.

He'd hung out longer than most of his friends,

And got his when he was 130.

It was now coming up to the turn of the century,

And he would soon be 142 years old.

Such longevity was common these days,

With the amazing technological achievements of the 21st century.

He'd hung out until he was 100,

Before he had his hips and knees renewed.

At 110,

His hearing had finally gone,

So he'd begrudgingly had the auric implants.

He'd regretted waiting so long,

As he could now hear better than a 10-year-old.

At 120,

The ocular grafts literally opened his eyes.

He could now see in the dark,

And access information on the interweb,

With literally a blink of his eyes.

It was the acquisition of the Zimmer,

Back in 2088,

That completely changed his world,

And took him to new heights.

Even with the replacement motorised joints he'd had at 100,

Movement had become a bit tricky.

The problem nowadays was the time it took his brain to react.

His mind was bright as ever,

But he knew that his neurochemistry was slowing down.

It wouldn't be long now before he joined his wife in the collective.

His Zimmer was his new pride and joy,

And it had taken no time for him to adapt to it.

It wasn't like the ones his parents used only 90 years ago.

This one could levitate.

It took him to places he'd only ever dreamed about.

With the help of some intrepid sherpas,

And an oxygen mask,

He'd become the oldest person to reach the summit of Mount Everest.

He'd travelled down the whole length of the White Nile in less than a day.

His Paralympic gold medal,

In 2096 at the High Hurdles over 10,

000 metres,

Was his crowning glory.

What gave him the greatest pleasure by far though,

Was once again being able to tend to his garden.

I love your collection. So much in such a short time. I’m sure the synapses in my brain are lighting up all over the place as I follow along... and for many minutes afterwards. This one in particular left my mind buzzing with all the ideas and possibilities. Thank you! ... oh and even better that I spent my day gardening 😊

Love these tales...this one especially resonating with my need for temperance and having just gotten ocular implants! To be able to see like a 10 year old and do some gardening and art work again. I love gardening! I want a zimmer! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜πŸ™‹πŸ™βœŒπŸΌπŸŽΆπŸ’“

Lovely story about the importance of always going in to the unknown and going with the experiences we find there but remembering to stay grounded and have strong earth roots
