Hello fellow luxurious breathers,
Welcoming you.
This is day six of a little mini-series.
We've explored some different ways of connecting with full and expansive breathing.
Over time these body and breath perception practices are opening up our natural breath.
Supporting a full and expansive breath more and more of the time.
And of course our breath can respond to moments of stress and activation.
So this connection with our body allows us to notice this interweaving between what might be happening in our environment,
How my body is responding and how in turn my breath is responding.
And that flows into today's practice.
We'll be synchronizing some breath with gentle hand movements.
And as always there are a multitude of options,
Adaptations,
Modifications.
So this is just one way of moving and breathing,
Marrying our movement and breath.
So you can decide whether to begin with one hand or both.
Noticing the hands,
Maybe even gazing down,
Looking at the hands,
Perhaps the fingers are gently curled in.
Beginning to close the fingers,
Making a little fist and then stretch the fingers long.
You might observe how quickly you are opening and closing.
If it feels okay to close down the eyes,
You can explore that.
And then as you feel comfortable with the movement,
The next time your hands stretch long,
The fingers stretch long,
Find a breath in.
And your breath out,
We'll close the fingers,
Curling the fingers in,
Finding your loose fist.
Your breath in to open,
Your breath out to close.
Falling into your own rhythm.
No need to make the breath longer or slower,
Just allowing your movement and breath to synchronize.
And if like me,
Your hand starts to get tired,
Maybe that's your invitation to explore the other side.
Your in-breath to open,
Unfurl,
Unravel the fingers,
Stretch them long.
And your out-breath,
Curling the fingers,
A fist with the thumb,
Perhaps on the outside.
You might gently observe where your tongue is resting in your mouth.
The possibility of noticing the shoulders,
The arms,
Can they be heavy and relaxed?
Imagine with every breath in,
The fingers are blossoming open.
Your breath is creating that movement.
And then your breath out,
Guides the fingers back,
Curling them in.
You might like to take a little pause,
Have a rest.
How does your breath feel?
How is it moving through your body?
You might notice a little echo of movement through the hands,
Dental pulsation,
Opening,
Closing.
And then just an option,
If you like,
Breathing in,
Letting the fingers stretch long.
And pause just for a moment with the fingers stretched,
Really feel that skin across the palm lengthening.
And then let the out-breath curl the fingers back in,
And squeeze the fingers right at the bottom of the out-breath.
Inhale,
Lengthening.
Really notice that moment at the top of the in-breath when the fingers are stretched,
Taking up more space.
And then let the fingers curl in towards the palm at the bottom of the out-breath,
Have a little squeeze of the hand.
Then let that rhythm invite this awareness of these four components of your breath.
Inhale,
Pause for a moment with the hand and fingers stretched.
Exhale,
Pause for a moment,
That little squeeze of the hand.
Inhale,
Little pause.
Exhale,
Little pause.
That lengthening of the fingers,
That stretch sensation,
It gives you something to anchor your attention on in that pause,
That moment of suspension.
And the same for the closing of the fist,
That little squeeze at the bottom of the exhale,
Dwelling in that moment of suspension,
That pause.
Those four components all make up the breath.
Inhale,
Moment of suspension at the top.
Exhale,
Moment of suspension at the bottom.
And the fifth component,
That movement,
That dance,
That flow of the breath.
So wherever you are,
Maybe one more in-breath and out-breath.
Letting yourself take a pause,
Take a moment to see how your breath is moving,
Cadence or rhythm,
The texture of your breath.
What was it like to synchronize your breath and your movement?
Did you notice that your breath was guiding the movement?
Or maybe your movement was guiding your breath.
Thank you so much for your presence,
For exploring this mindful movement breath practice together.
There is one day left of this little mini-series.
I hope that you can join us.
Until then,
Fellow luxurious breathers,
Breathe well.
