Okay,

Welcome to this meditation on awakening the balanced artist in you.

And meditation can also be an art.

When we close our eyes,

We may have vision,

Creative ideas,

Interesting thoughts.

There's this great quote from Emerson where he says something along the lines of,

In great works of genius we find our own alienated thoughts that come back to us with a certain kind of majesty.

And I think what he's saying is that we see creativity and genius in others and invalidate it in ourselves or we miss it.

And it's not uncommon to have many thousands of thoughts a day and having one or two creative thoughts in there that just pass by without us realizing.

And it could be like pulling a needle out of a haystack,

Finding that creative vision,

That interesting,

Inspiring thought,

And not letting it be covered by an avalanche of worry or stress,

Invalidation or anxiety.

So when we awaken the artist in ourselves,

We give ourselves the permission,

The space,

An attitude of playfulness and openness to be creative and to allow life to be creative through us.

So in this meditation,

I want you to give yourself the license,

The opportunity,

That creative energy to come through you in whatever form it wants to.

And the artist in us when it's balanced,

Obviously it's creative,

Imaginative,

It appreciates beauty,

It has a sense of expression,

It can be self-validating,

It doesn't need validation or criticism from anyone else,

It could be authentic,

And it could even change the way you see the world or the way somebody else sees the world.

Our art can be really powerful and it could pull us into the moment,

It can enrich our experience of life and seeing and feeling beauty.

So welcome to this meditation,

You artist,

Whether you know it or not.

When the artist is deficient,

The artist may avoid creating,

May be invalidated,

May be lazy or apathetic,

And when the artist is in excess,

The artist might be a workaholic,

Ego-driven with its creativity,

Competitive,

But when the artist is in balance,

There is a joy in the process of creativity.

So let's find that joy together.

I want you to go ahead and close your eyes,

Take a few slow breaths and calm your body down if you need to,

But also allow that creative flow to start happening.

If you need to wiggle,

Move your shoulders,

Let out a sigh of relief,

Meditating.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself to be still.

The artist needs space and needs flexibility.

So let's begin by acknowledging our inner artist.

We all have one.

You have one.

And in this meditation,

We're going to explore a creative vision.

So I'd like you to start by seeing yourself sitting in the center of your head,

And the center of your head can be a room.

It can look like anything you want it to,

An office,

A yoga studio,

A monastery,

The top of a mountain.

So I'd like you to choose your scenery and sit down in the center of your room.

And just this exercise alone is a form of creative vision.

You could be as detailed as you want.

Consider yourself a feng shui master of your own head.

And from the center of your head,

As you look out and look forward,

It looks like a big,

Perhaps IMAX screen of the night sky,

Or it just is the night sky with all the stars twinkling.

You can notice it with some awe and some curiosity.

And then you start to recognize that there's one star that kind of stands out.

It starts to shimmer.

And then all of a sudden,

It gets bigger and brighter,

Closer and closer.

And then the light of this star begins to project an image out in front of you,

The way the light from a movie projector casts an image onto a screen.

And at first,

It might just be light,

And then slowly it begins to take form.

But this image is no ordinary image.

It's a deep,

Creative vision of something your inner artist is here to fulfill in this lifetime.

It may be an image of you doing art,

Music,

Writing,

Dancing,

Comedy,

Sculptures,

Or some other creative endeavor.

This vision is something your soul wants to show you,

To show your body in its human form,

That it's here to birth.

We're not only on this planet to birth children and to work and to survive,

But we're also creative creatures.

So there's something from a higher dimension that's projecting out of this star and showing you an image on the screen of your mind's eye.

Take a moment,

Let it form,

And see if you can get an intuitive sense of what it is.

Even if you can't clearly see it,

You might just get a sense.

Sometimes an image takes a moment to sharpen or to load.

So be patient.

If you get heady or intellectual about it,

Let that energy kind of just drain off.

There's nothing to figure out or get right.

You can look at this image with the attitude of,

If there was nothing limiting your creativity,

How would it show up?

If you weren't worried about being invalidated or failing or criticized,

How would it show up?

Just pure creativity.

And see if you can allow yourself to feel the energy of this vision.

What is it like to give yourself permission to really have the creative energy?

And that doesn't have to be a goal or a destination or a certain outcome.

The artist enjoys the experience of the expression of the creativity itself.

The artist enjoys this experience.

It fulfills itself in the creative process.

There's almost a joy and a bliss to it.

And if this energy has another purpose to it,

That's also fine.

If your art is here to heal,

To help people connect or enlighten others,

To show them a new paradigm of reality,

That's wonderful.

And can you begin to commit yourself to birthing this creativity,

To overcoming the fear or the apathy or whatever challenge holds you back from fulfilling it?

Can you really own this creative vision?

It's a gift from the universe to you and from you to the rest of life and humanity.

So really own it.

It's probably been waiting long enough.

And when you step out of meditation,

You're going to start taking your first steps towards creating this vision.

So you're really grounding the energy of it.

There's no coincidence that you're doing this meditation today.

And you're really opening your energy up for that inner artist to express itself out into the world.

Go ahead and take a big,

Deep breath in.

A nice,

Easy sigh out.

And when you're ready,

You can open your eyes and stretch and go enjoy being an artist in this world.

Have fun.

And I'll see you in the next one.

This was such an easy practice to do that I did not expect such a clear and profound visual to emerge. Even as I thought the image would change in some way, it remained very clear and unforgettable. Thank you David 🙏
