What is grounding?
Most of you,
I imagine,
Something that you're aware of.
It's a word that's used a lot at the moment,
Or in my universe it is at least.
And technically,
The idea of grounding is being connected to the earth.
So that's,
You know,
Something,
If you can access it,
It's a really good thing to do every day.
Getting outside,
Getting direct sunlight and connection with the earth.
What that does to us is it changes the electrical energy in our body.
They have actually done sort of medical studies on this,
And they've noticed that things like your heart rate variability increases,
Which means essentially that you're more resilient to stress,
You're more resilient to shock,
You're more resilient in your immune system,
You have less anxiety,
Chronic disease symptoms go down.
It's an amazing,
Amazing practice.
And it also brings you into a state where you can deal with the world better.
So if you can get outside to ground,
Walking bare feet,
Even standing on a patch of grass,
Or anything that's natural,
Is one of the most classic ways of grounding.
But it isn't always practical.
And for me,
This is where sort of the definition of extending what grounding is,
Comes into play.
Because for me,
As much as I would love to get outside all the time,
And I do as much as possible,
Sometimes that isn't practical or possible.
So I use what I call energetic grounding to actually hack the system,
As it were.
The work I do as a therapist and a healer is understanding that everything is connected.
And we work through intention,
Power of intention is vast.
And as humans,
We've always done it,
You know,
We imagined that we could fly and someone invented an airplane,
It's sort of intentions with small steps,
You know,
Create things like the thought is the first thing that creates the emotion,
Which creates the stuff into the physical,
Which creates things into reality,
And the power of those is quite wild.
And so using a very small amount of focus,
We can actually intend that we are connecting with the earth herself and getting all of those benefits that we were hoping for,
That we would get if we went outside.
So biohack number one,
Is take one deep breath and release.
And that will start switching on the grounding process.
So this is what I like to call a micro meditation.
You know,
It's just a really simple technique to bring you here and now into the space.
It doesn't take long,
All it involves is a couple of breaths and just allowing yourself to feel that connection to the earth,
To the chair,
To yourself,
Whatever feels most relevant,
You know,
You're just coming in,
Taking a moment to be and sometimes that's all you need.
And so,
Close your eyes and take a nice deep breath in and exhale any physical tension.
With each breath,
Let your mind and body relax a little more.
Notice especially the place where you're connected to the ground,
Whether it's a chair,
The earth.
Taking one more breath,
Feeling your ribs expand and as you exhale,
Open your eyes.
Sometimes,
The deep breath life hack is all you need and sometimes you might need to do a little more.
So another really cool hack is actually just physically drawing a protective boundary around,
Pushing any excess energy down and just let it rest there and you might feel it coming back down.
We're just going to take a moment to just relax a little bit.
Round it and it's an open-eyed exercise,
Which is literally gonna have our hands above our head and then just intend pushing any energy that is safe for us to do.
So just down towards our root,
Down towards our feet and just breathing out and you may or may not notice anything.
It might be sensation,
It might not,
But you might notice you get slightly more tired.
And now conversely,
What we're going to do is almost you can imagine digging your fingers into the earth and asking the earth,
Can you just borrow some energy and pull some up into your system and then kind of scoop it up and you're scooping it up clean,
Clear and perfectly matching your energy and then just as you breathe up,
Just pulling it up and you might need to do that a couple of times,
Just breathing some energy up.
Another great thing you can do for yourself,
If you're really exhausted and need to ground and cleanse,
Would be have an Epsom salt bath or a shower.
If you don't have access to a bath or even a foot soak with salts in,
That would probably be better than a shower,
Even though a shower will cleanse your energy,
Just getting salt into your system and asking the elements,
Asking the water,
Asking the salts to help cleanse you,
Help clear you,
Help energize you.
And often we feel ungrounded because our systems are clogged up with other people's stuff or just too much input and so part of it is always just recycling anything that doesn't serve you or releasing anything that doesn't serve you or just make space for your own energy,
Which will make you feel a lot more yourself and a lot more solid and then bringing in some fresh energy.
Those are always the two things that being grounded is,
Letting go of the old and bringing in some fresh earth energy.
