If you're here because your mind won't slow down tonight,
You're not alone.
Sometimes the body is tired,
But the mind is still it up.
Still replaying,
Planning,
Thinking.
There's nothing wrong with you for being awake right now.
This practice isn't about forcing your thoughts to stop.
It's about letting your whole system feel safe enough to settle on its own.
Sleep comes more easily when we stop trying to make it happen.
Take your time getting comfortable,
Let the bed hold your weight.
Take one slow breath in through your nose,
The long easy breath out.
Again,
Gentle inhale and a soft exhale.
The night is here,
Nothing else is required of you.
Nothing needs to be figured out right now,
Not tonight,
Not in this moment.
Whatever your mind is working on can wait until morning.
Feel the pillow under your head,
The blankets around your body.
Notice the simple fact that you are lying down,
Supported.
Even if your thoughts continue,
Your body can begin to rest.
Rest doesn't require a quiet mind,
It only requires a willing body.
Let the room be as it is.
Let the night be as it is.
Let yourself be as you are.
You are safe enough right now to rest.
Thinking happens mostly in the head,
Rest happens in the body.
So gently,
Without force,
Let your attention drop down from your thoughts into physical sensation.
Notice your hands,
The quiet heaviness there,
Your arms resting,
Your legs supported by the bed,
Your back being held by the mattress.
Feel the temperature of the air on your skin.
The weight of the blankets,
Simple sensations,
Nothing to analyse.
Each time you notice your back in thinking,
That's ok,
You haven't done anything wrong.
Just gently return to the feeling of lying here,
Breathing,
Being supported.
Now notice the breath in your body,
Not to control it,
Just to feel it,
A slow rise and fall.
The breath is happening whether you think about it or not.
Let it be a quiet rhythm in the background,
Like waves.
If thoughts keep moving,
You don't have to attend every one,
Like a radio playing in another room,
You can let it fade into the distance.
You are not your thoughts right now,
You are the one lying here.
Feel the space around your body,
The quiet of the room.
Imagine your thoughts slowly getting further apart,
More space between them,
Like clouds drifting across a wide night sky,
Nothing to push away,
Nothing to hold on to,
Even if sleep doesn't come right away,
This is still rest,
This still counts.
Your body knows the way into sleep,
You don't have to lead it there,
My voice will fade and a steady gentle sleep sound will continue through the night,
You don't need to listen,
You don't need to follow anything,
Just let yourself drift,
Your body can take it from
