In any moment of life, but especially in moments of difficulty, it is healing to feel connected with the people we love, feel accepted by and safe with. In this meditation I will guide you through this. We will also reconnect with the values we learned from our significant others and bathe in the feelings of love and connectedness this generates in our body. Finally we will look for an anchor, a word or image that arises from this felt sense. This is an anchor we can always return to in order to call upon this feeling of connectedness, any time in our life when we need it. As the meditation comes to an end, we send this loving feeling in a compassionate way to others who are in need of it. This is a very good exercise to do before going to sleep, because this feeling of love will keep on pervading you, all through the night and will have a healing and strengthening effect on you.

Imagine yourself in a place where you feel safe and relaxed,

Or just this place where you are now,

And think about all the people who have mattered to you in your life.

Can you remember who offered you a wonderful smile in your life?

The people who have brought you joy.

The people who have brought you wisdom.

The people who have given you their love.

The people who have given you their support both emotionally and practically.

The people who have cared for you when being a child.

And one by one you collect these people in a circle around you.

Their faces and attention are directed towards you.

Just collect all the people from the past,

The present,

People who appreciate you just for who you are.

Put them in this circle around you so you can bathe in this safe space.

I like it when meditations help me to connect beams of goodwill to beings of all types, because when I think of “innocent” creatures or plants something in me relaxes more deeply. I enjoyed the phrase ‘social field’ because in these times I’ve felt less trust in humankind. So these types of loving kindness meditations bring me back to the sense of goodwill, where my trust in nonhuman beings sends a helping hand to the the areas in my social nature where I have more fear. Thank you for the practice.
