Living in Tokyo, I see all kinds of great t-shirts. In this meditation, I explore one of the sayings that I saw. It helps us to find our own power, to move through this world into new places and narratives that help us live light and shine.

Hey there.

Welcome to this time and space.

This chance to breathe and center.

Just an FYI this one's salty so if that's not your jam and meditation you might want to choose a different track.

So everywhere I look in Tokyo I see great t-shirts.

One I passed this morning on my walk simply said,

Damn.

Another on a subway,

Charm the plates.

A favorite I recently saw said,

I move myself.

This one made me pause.

Unless we have mobility issues,

I move myself is so obvious that it almost seems pointless.

Almost.

And yet it is a powerful reminder of our own agency.

Our own power and ability to move in and through the world.

I move myself.

It means you can choose to go from here to another here and if you don't like that one you get to go and find another one and another one.

Every move allows you to go,

Proceed,

Change,

Carry on.

That could be to a new place,

A new storyline,

A new passion.

I move myself.

Of course that can also refer to our inner world.

I'll be honest there are times here in Tokyo when I am absolutely overwhelmed.

I don't understand much of the language,

The rules,

The labels,

So I often have no idea if I'm about to put something sweet in my mouth or something that has tentacles.

Maybe you've experienced something like that too when there are too many demands on your over-taxed system and you just want to know what the fuck to expect next.

What this means is that sometimes we are asked to move ourselves with tenderness and care.

If you are on a bucking horse you don't also need to hop on the nearest fishing boat and search for the biggest hurricane.

When we are overwhelmed or overtaxed we can choose to move ourselves into the nearest harbor or nest to rest,

To feel safe.

One more thing about this saying,

Sometimes we need help to move.

This could be a literal move from one living space to another but it could just as easily be when we are being asked to live a storyline we'd rather not be living.

Maybe we don't know how to move ourselves into a different narrative.

Maybe we don't trust ourselves anymore.

Maybe we've been fed all kinds of bullshit so we doubt our incredible self-worth.

That's when we find other movers we can trust.

Ones that we know are not gonna break things but who are going to handle us with the utmost care.

Shepherding us forward until we can be on our own way again.

So remember I move myself and never,

Please,

Never doubt that you are fierce.

You are powerful.

You can move yourself through this world to new places,

To new stories,

Where you live light and shine.
