We'll start with just feeling the contact between the body and the seat,
The chair,
Or if you're standing,
The floor.
Feel your weight supported by whatever is beneath your seat area,
Your legs,
Or your feet if you're standing.
Just imagine from the base of your spine,
A plumb line,
Roots that drop all the way down,
Down through the floor,
Through the top layers of the earth,
All the way down to the center of the earth.
So you feel that really deep,
Grounded support.
You just feel it rising up through the bones of your body.
So if you're standing,
You can feel the support beneath your feet,
And then you feel it in the lower legs,
And the knees,
And the thighs,
The hips,
All the way up through the spine to the crown of the head.
And if you're seated,
You feel it beneath the base of your body,
The buttocks,
The legs,
Maybe the feet on the floor,
Whatever is touching the seat or the cushion that you're sitting on.
You just invite all the rest of your body to relax,
Allow all the weight to be supported by what's touching the floor,
The cushion.
You feel that spine rising up long and straight.
From that tall spine,
You can just imagine the shoulders hanging off,
Relaxed.
You can imagine the ribs relaxing.
You can imagine the abdomen and the lower back relaxing.
You can imagine your attention settling into the center of the abdomen,
This very deep grounded place in the body.
You simply allow your mind to rest.
Take several long deep breaths into this deep place.
And with an intention of gentleness,
Of kindness toward ourselves,
Just make the intention that when we start to feel too scattered,
Too stressed out,
We can come back to this sense of support,
This sense of connection all the way to the center of the earth.
