Hey team,
Welcome back.
Day 5.
When was the last time you played?
Enjoyed a dance?
Climbed a tree?
Rolled down a hill?
We play less as we get older,
Which means we are off balance less.
We challenge our balance less.
If we don't use it,
We lose it.
So today,
We get ourselves off balance.
We'll shake a little,
Twitch a little,
And hopefully replace grace with glee.
Balance training reduces fall risk,
Improves confidence,
And supports healthy aging by challenging the sensory and muscular systems that keep us upright.
As always,
Adapt the practices to suit your condition and needs.
This might include practicing near a stable support.
Or avoiding certain things like closing your eyes with the exercises.
Or skipping exercises altogether.
Make it work for you today.
Okay,
Let's jump in.
Okay,
Come to stand.
Find center,
Take a breath in.
And breath out.
We're going to shift our weight over onto our right foot.
Draw your left knee up.
And you might just find balance here.
This is,
To be fair,
Enough.
And you can always come back to this place if perhaps the balance becomes a little bit frustrating.
You can just stand on one leg.
This is plenty.
But from here,
We're going to extend right to left.
So both arms.
Off to the right.
Leg to the left.
Explore getting long in each direction.
And then coming back to center,
Knee lifts.
Take the leg back.
Shift forwards,
Left hand to toes.
Knee to calf touch.
Take a moment.
When you're ready rising.
All the way up to stand.
Knee lift.
Leg shoots back.
Warrior 3.
Couple of breaths.
Finding lift and length.
Slowly stepping back.
High lunge.
Palms forward.
Take a moment.
Shift forward.
Leg lift.
Knee lifts.
Ooh,
And we're done.
Awesome,
Shake it out.
Give the shoulders a roll,
Take a deep breath.
Here we go,
Let's try the other side.
Little smile as you move in.
Shift your weight to left foot,
Right knee lifts.
Just have a play.
You're reaching both arms off to one side and the leg to the opposite side.
Oh,
Full extension!
Coming all the way back.
Neela.
Crouching down,
We're taking.
.
.
Right hand to toe.
Neater cat.
And then extending.
Back up.
Me live.
Warrior 3.
.
.
Mindful length,
Mindful lift.
Stepping back.
Take a moment to land,
Settle,
And then shift forward.
Legless.
Knee lift.
And stand.
Ugh.
Alright,
Shake it out.
Well done.
Find a little bit of space.
We're going to do some heel-to-toe walking here.
And we're going to challenge our balance just a little bit by closing one or both eyes.
Okay,
So you can do this with eyes open if balance already feels challenging.
You want to make sure,
Of course,
That you weren't to take a fall that would injure yourself.
So make sure there aren't any sharp corners that you don't want around you.
And you can use a wall to one side if you like.
So option here,
Eyes open.
Options to close one eye.
So I'm going to close one eye.
And we're just going to begin to walk,
Heal.
To toe.
I think what you'll find is.
.
.
There's a little more challenge in it.
Use your arms to balance.
Use your breath to steady you.
When you reach The other side.
Give it a turn.
Option here,
Again,
Maybe just to switch eyes.
Or if you'd like,
You can play with closing both eyes.
So even though you're balancing,
See if you can relax on the inside.
And if you wobble,
No problem,
Just come back.
Come back to center,
Second round of that same series that we started with.
So again,
Shift your weight.
Left foot Left knee lift.
Let's find a little more extension this time.
We're reaching to the sides.
Allah.
Coming back to center.
Knee lift.
Right hand to toe,
Knee,
Calf.
Rise.
Knee lifts and warrior three.
Full extension.
Touching down.
Take a breath.
Study.
Shift forward,
Shoulders back.
Leg lift.
Ni lev And we touch down,
Boom.
Next slide,
Here we go.
Shift your weight.
Lift your knee.
Extend side to side.
Have a play.
Let it be curious.
Let it be fun.
Let it be long.
Let it be lifted.
Bye.
Knee lift.
Hand to toe.
Knee to calf.
Rising up.
Nee-leh.
Warrior 3.
Full extension.
Step back.
Study.
Weight shifts forward.
Leg lift.
Mila?
Ah,
And touch down.
Beautiful.
Stand.
You might close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in.
And a full breath out.
Okay team,
Great job.
I hope you enjoyed that.
Want more balance in your life?
Try this,
While brushing your teeth.
Stand on one leg for part of the time.
Switch sides halfway through.
You can always keep a hand near a wall if needed.
If you want a little bonus points,
Try switching hands on your toothbrush when you switch feet.
Okay,
Tomorrow we'll challenge your coordination.
And your brain.
At the same time.
We'll see you then.
