A meditation to welcome in your creative practice As a creative myself,
I know the subtle trepidation that can come as you're about to sit down on your desk and bring your vision to life.
I know how intimidating that blank page can be and how much courage it takes to show up.
What I have found in my long creative journey is how life-giving it is to take an intentional pause to recollect and re-ground before we begin.
So this is a short guided meditation intended to help you prepare and settle into your creative practice.
Enjoy.
Begin by closing your eyes and gifting yourself with the deepest breaths you have taken in your day.
Allow these breaths to sprout from your belly like vibrant growing vines and let your tension,
Worries and stress ride out on the exhale.
Continue quenching your body with breath and feel the churn of your mind settling down like leaves falling from a tree.
Feel the stillness arising at your borders and allow it to expand.
Now gently bring your mind back into your body.
Lovingly recall all the scattered parts of yourself that have been left someplace else in the past or the future and welcome them back home,
Here,
To your body.
Feel the wholesomeness that comes with this homecoming.
Feel the firmness of the ground underneath your feet and sit bones.
The kind assurance and reliability of the ground that holds you up.
Place your palms upturned on your lap and surrender all the weight that you've been carrying to the ground.
Feel gravity pulling down on your arms as you let them completely sink into your lap.
This is your sacred space.
Now I'd like you to scan your body and notice whether there's any clenching,
Contractions or tension that comes from the fear of making bad work,
The fear of the blank page or the fear that you'll discover you're not good enough.
Often this comes in the form of a clenched jaw,
A furrowed brow,
Uptight shoulders,
Shallow breaths,
A tight belly.
Send some loving breaths to these places where your body is holding this resistance or fear.
Allow these breaths to dissolve these pressures.
I'd also like you to observe whether there are any voices from your inner critic playing in your mind now,
Maybe saying things like,
You're not good enough,
You're going to mess things up today.
And I'd like you to just observe them like they're clouds drifting by,
Letting these messages dissolve back into the blue sky of your mind,
Leaving space for your boundless imagination to take flight.
Now as you stand at the precipice of your creative practice,
Feel into the blessing that it is to have the opportunity to create,
To have this blank page or canvas to freely express yourself and make your mark,
To weave your dreams,
Thoughts and emotions into something tangible that can be seen by others.
Feel the gratitude for your creative energy and gifts spreading through your body.
Send them a big thank you.
Feel the exhilarating edge that comes with the blank page,
With the unknown,
For it is within the unknown that true magic unfolds.
Embrace this unknown not as a daunting void,
But as an open field of possibilities for you to run wild and free.
Now I'd like you to visualize yourself confidently creating and savoring the process with a smile.
Feel the joy of creating now.
I invite you to repeat out loud after me.
I will enjoy the process.
I will enjoy the process.
I will create good work today.
I will create good work today.
I will create good work today.
Let these statements reverberate fully in your body,
Opening the space for you to receive the magic of your practice.
May your creative practice be a sanctuary of self-expression where you dance freely with your imagination.
May you embrace the imperfections,
For they make your creation uniquely yours and are invitations for unexplored possibilities.
May you discover surprising wonders and depths of your own potential.
When you're ready,
You can open your eyes and bring yourself back into your room.
Thank you for practicing with me today.
Cheering you on and have fun!
