Mindfulness practices designed to enrich your life.
This is the Being Present practice with David Mercado.
Day 10 Managing Expectations If you expect nothing from somebody,
You are never disappointed.
See the lap,
The bell jar.
Are the expectations that you are following truly yours?
Sometimes,
We follow expectations that we have picked up from external forces,
Such as our families,
Parents,
And society in general.
Are you expecting to be rich and famous?
Are you expecting to be a recognized doctor,
Lawyer or accountant?
Are you expecting that your friends will react in the same way you react when something happens to them?
Are you expecting people to be nice to you,
As payment for being nice to them?
We have so many expectations throughout our day.
We believe that some are real and true not only for us,
But for everyone else.
Instead of living in constant disappointment,
Question your own expectations.
They might not belong to you.
They might come from your family members,
Friends or the media that loves to show us worlds and lifestyles that are far removed from reality.
Be true and appreciate yourself and follow what you really feel and who you really are.
Practice number 10,
Managing Expectations Number 1,
Make a list of 5 things you appreciate.
Write a reason why you are grateful.
Number 2,
Look at your list and re-read each item again,
And after each item say thank you,
Thank you,
Thank you with intense emotion.
Number 3,
Try to find a quiet space where you can be present,
And pick up an expectation that bothers you or you find difficult to deal with.
For example,
Wanting a friend or partner to behave in a certain way.
Number 4,
Once you find your centre,
Ask yourself if this expectation belongs to you or not,
Or how realistic it is for you or the other person to make it real.
Number 5,
If this expectation does not relate to you,
It might be a great opportunity to bend it and to make sure you stick to what is real and important for you.
Be well,
Be safe and be grateful.
