Mindfulness practices designed to enrich your life.

This is the Being Present practice with David Mercado.

Day 4 Appreciating your health The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn the past,

Not to worry about the future,

Or not to anticipate troubles,

But to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.

Buddha.

How was yesterday?

I hope you found ways to help others.

Today we will be talking about health.

How is your health?

Sometimes we live life as if we were immortal.

We abuse our mind and body with work,

Stress,

Alcohol,

Food,

Drugs and exaggerated emotions.

It is not until something drastic happens that we realise how fragile we are.

We become ill,

Depressed or our body does not function.

Having an appreciation of life and the people around us,

Instead of having continuous negative thoughts might help to improve your health and overall wellbeing.

Researchers at Berkeley University found an interesting correlation between gratitude and health in people with stage B asymptomatic heart failure.

In their study of 186 patients,

More grateful people reported better sleep,

Less fatigue,

Less depression,

More confidence in their ability to care for themselves and lower levels of systemic inflammation.

Patients with the daily gratitude journaling for 8 weeks also showed decreased markers of inflammation at the end of the experiment.

If you are ill or if you are close to someone who is ill,

Imagine yourself or others fully recovered and full of energy.

Think about the good things the future has in store for you as if they were already there.

Our minds cannot tell the difference between reality and future thinking.

Therefore,

Imagining you are well with great appreciation,

It will bring wellness into your body and your mind.

Your health is what you make of it.

Everything you do and think either adds to the vitality,

Energy and spirit you possess or takes it away from it.

Practice number 3,

Appreciating your health.

Number 1,

Make a list of 5 things you are grateful for.

Write a reason why you are grateful.

Number 2,

Look at your list and reread each item again and after each item say thank you,

Thank you,

Thank you with as much intense emotion as you can.

Number 3,

Identify why would you like to improve your health.

A better functioning organ,

Reducing pain or feeling better with more energy.

Number 4,

Find a quiet place and pick one of the items from your list.

Now imagine that this is now better or pain has gone or you are feeling energetic as if you were now recovered.

For example,

You could say I am blessed for having my energy back as I feel renewed,

Recovered and ready for the next big thing in my life.

Thank you,

Thank you,

Thank you.

Be well,

Be safe and be grateful.
