Self-mothering is the practice of providing yourself with the love,
Care,
And support you may not have received,
Nor received as you needed it,
Whether as a child or at any earlier time in your development.
It involves nurturing your inner child,
Addressing unmet emotional and physical needs,
And it includes fostering a deep sense of self-love and acceptance.
Self-mothering is a construct that impacts all of us,
For it is about learning how to give to ourselves,
Now,
In the present,
Whatever we need,
And also being able to know what our needs are,
And what we needed from our mother that,
For any number of reasons,
We did not receive.
This practice can be particularly helpful for improving one's self-esteem and self-worth,
For healing trauma,
Neglect,
A lack of emotional care and nurturing,
And to better learn the ability to soothe yourself.
In this way,
Self-mothering is a form of healing your inner child.
Mothering yourself is about treating yourself in the ways that you wished,
And also needed to be treated,
While growing up.
Listening to,
Nurturing,
Trusting,
And celebrating yourself are all part of learning to mother yourself.
Ideally,
We receive love and support from our parents during childhood,
But this isn't always the case,
And it may not always be given in the ways that we need it.
What we experience as an absence of love,
Understanding,
And feeling valued by our parents plays a significant role in how we experience and treat ourselves,
And how we act and react in our own relationships.
Let this prayer be a starting place for you to experience the possibility of what more you can give yourself.
A prayer of self-mothering.
Through love and kindness,
I can remember all of the moments that you cared for and mothered me.
I can feel your love as my own.
Through love and kindness,
I know these skills for all of the moments that lived through me that I appreciate now,
That find me in the promise of all situations,
All conditions.
Love in its pivotal grace finds me.
It is freeing and liberating,
And I know that I can live well,
And in the grace and love of my heart in love with me.
The love that I feel,
That I instinctively know,
Is the love of self-mothering,
Self-nurturing,
Self-care,
And the guidance that I need now more than ever.
It is the love and attention of care that I give to myself.
To live in the world safe,
Joyful,
Present,
All of my needs cared for.
I learn this love,
I learn this mothering,
As one of the utmost signs that I am complete.
I am perfect as I am.
I am tender.
I am love itself.
Thank you.
My grace lives on in me.
My grace is the conduit of love evermore.
Namaste.
