This is an original poem by Leah Kumayama about building self empathy and healing the shadow parts of ourselves. Poetry is a form of creative self expression that can help heal trauma and intergenerational trauma and build empathy. Must you hold darkness to see the light?

Befriend your demons before angels shine bright.

Embrace your weirdness and you will find beauty.

Envelop your sadness.

It is your duty.

Inhale and soften your heart and mind.

Receive compassion from being kind.

Forgive and care for yourself first.

Seeds grow in darkness.

Quench your thirst.

Leah, your voice carries both softness and strengthโ€”like a gentle breeze that somehow knows exactly where to land. Your words left echoes in the quietest corners of me. Thank you for sharing your soul so freely. ๐ŸŒ‹
