What superhero powers do you expect yourself to have, or do others expect you to have? Super-speed, super-strength, super-intellect, invisibility, the power to turn back time? This brief recording guides you to set the cape and mask aside, so that you may tend to and rest your human, non-superhero body and mind.

Close your eyes and think of your day today.

Notice how some people,

Maybe a lot of people,

Are looking to you and wanting to see you as a superhero.

But you know that you're just you.

It can feel uncomfortable being forced to wear spandex and a cape all day long.

Take a moment to identify the quote superpowers others want to see in you.

Super patience,

Super strength,

Super speed,

Invisibility,

The power to turn back time.

What superhero costume does that put you in?

What's the mask?

What are the colors?

Now imagine that you are at the end of your day at home in a quiet and private space.

Gently place your cape aside.

Remove the special boots.

Take off your mask.

Look at your face in the mirror.

Take in the worry lines,

The weariness in your eyes.

See your own face with compassion,

With love for yourself and all you've been carrying all day long.

Set it all aside.

Peel off your costume and magically find yourself in the most comfortable clothing you can imagine.

And begin tending to your very human body underneath.

Massage the sore muscles.

Put warmth where it's needed and coolness where it's needed.

Give care to your whole body so that you may rest.

Wherever you are right now,

Take in that sense of deep rest for at least a moment.

Feel the peace in this moment.
