Water can be calm and still, reflecting the world around it. The ancient Greeks personified the world ocean as Okeanos, a divine entity who represented the still, reflective aspect of water. This Water Element Meditation is an invitation to release the ego, and cultivate unshakeable trust by returning to your true Ocean Nature.

Transcript

Today's invitation is a water element meditation to empower you to release the ego and cultivate unshakable trust by returning to your ocean nature.

Start by aligning your body.

You can be seated or lying down in a comfortable position.

If you are seated,

Let your feet come hip distance apart and let all ten of your toes connect with the earth.

Allow your arms to float or rest by the sides of your body.

Feel free to use any cushions,

Pillows or other forms of support to ensure you feel comfortable and held.

You may wish to half or fully close your eyes if that feels good to you.

If you prefer to keep your eyes open,

Hold a soft gaze or draw your awareness inwards.

Exhale to yield and soften.

Feel that you are held by the earth.

Inhale to expand the length and breadth of your body with the heavens.

Exhale to soften your skull and let this trickle down your head,

Your jaw,

Your neck,

Your shoulders.

Inhale,

Allow a feeling of spaciousness to spread down to your chest,

Your hips,

Your legs,

Your feet,

Your toes.

Allow your breath to melt and dissolve all of the tension in your body.

Exhale to relax even more,

Allowing yourself to settle into stillness.

Inhale to feel a vitality enlivening the whole of your body and your being.

With your next breath,

Visualize an ocean.

An ocean as far and as wide and as deep as you can imagine.

Filling the horizon all around you.

See the shades of blue extend beyond the horizon,

Merging with the vast,

Limitless blue sky.

Feel the ocean breeze gently caress your face and smell the scent of the fresh,

Airy,

And salty ocean waves.

Sense the motion of the waves,

Layer upon layer,

Gently lapping.

Notice your breath like the waves and let your breath mirror this wave-like quality.

Inhale,

Feeling a gentle rise and exhale,

Feeling a soft surrender.

For the next five breaths,

Continue to ride the wave of your breath,

Allowing yourself to yield,

Relaxing into yourself like a wave relaxing into the ocean.

Now with your next inhale,

Feel that you are a tiny and specific wave,

Unique and individual.

And as you exhale,

Feel that you are the vast,

Limitless ocean without bounds.

Inhaling,

Feeling that you are small and specific wave.

Exhaling,

Remembering that you are the vast and limitless ocean.

Continue like this for the next five breaths.

Now begin to invite both extremes,

Feeling that you are as finite,

Small,

And unique as a specific wave,

And at the same time as vast,

Limitless,

And without bounds as the entire ocean.

Feel both of these experiences simultaneously in your consciousness.

Feel your identity expand.

Realize that you are not a tiny,

Specific wave only.

You are the entire ocean in specific expression.

Embrace your ocean nature.

Now gently let go of this practice and notice the natural texture,

Quality,

And length of your breath.

As you notice the natural texture,

Quality,

And length of your breath.

With your next breath,

See the surface of the ocean sparkling in the Sun.

See every little sparkle,

Every glimmer,

Like stars and constellations in the galaxy.

Feel the stars start to populate and fill the ocean as you see the reflection of the Sun on the ocean waves.

See the pure,

Clean,

White start to merge and spread over the ocean's blue until all you see is a horizon as white as fresh snow.

Upon the vast,

White horizon,

See now a rainbow-colored spinning top.

See its seven rainbow colors.

Red,

Orange,

Yellow,

Green,

Blue,

Indigo,

And violet.

Guided by an invisible hand,

The top starts spinning.

And for your next five breaths,

See the top spinning faster,

Faster,

And faster,

Picking up speed.

See all seven colors start to circle,

Mix,

And merge.

Now the top is spinning so fast,

It is perfectly centered.

Spinning so fast,

It appears motionless.

It appears completely still.

You see that all seven colors have merged into one.

A blinding,

Piercing,

Pure white that blends into the vast,

White horizon.

You can barely see it.

As you inhale,

You feel how fast the top is spinning.

As you exhale,

You feel the stillness at its center.

Inhaling,

Feeling its motion.

Exhaling,

Feeling its stillness.

Continue like this for the next five breaths.

Now begin to invite both extremes,

Motion and stillness.

At the same time,

Feel both of these experiences at the same time in your consciousness.

Realize and remember that this spinning top is you.

Sense that stillness is at the core of your being.

Sense that you are in perfect equilibrium.

Feel that there is no conflict.

Feel the pure energy.

You are made up.

You are pure energy.

You are peace.

Experience yourself in this unconflicted way.

Experience the truth about what and who you are.

With your next exhale,

Allow your awareness to reside in this stillness and peace of your heart.

Feel that the intent of the universe and the desires and longings of your heart are one and the same.

With your next inhale,

Allow your heartfelt wisdom to rise with the breath of your heart.

And as you exhale,

Become open to whatever guidance your heart,

Your connection with the universe has to offer you.

Allow the creative force of the universe to guide you and help you make your most important decision today.

You are welcome to linger longer in this space of stillness and peace that is the true nature of your being.

If and when you feel you are ready to conclude your practice,

Begin now to allow your breath to become more audible.

Let your body move with your breath.

This practice is now complete.

You may wish to gently rise and stretch.

And for the rest of today,

Reflect on stillness and your relationship with it.
