The Throat Chakra.
This is where we find our voice,
Where we speak our truth,
Where we express what's alive in us.
A lot of times we're either silent,
Swallowing our words because we're afraid of conflict or judgment,
Or we're speaking without thinking,
Using our words to defend or attack rather than to communicate authentically.
This practice is about finding that balance,
Speaking your truth with clarity and kindness,
Using your voice without apology,
But also without harm.
The Throat Chakra is located along the spine at the center of the throat,
At the base of the neck.
This is where we connect to authentic expression,
Our truth,
Our ability to communicate clearly and honestly.
The color associated with the Throat Chakra is blue,
Clear,
Bright sky blue,
And the element is ether or space.
This chakra is all about expression and communication.
Space allows for sound,
For voice,
For truth to be spoken.
When the Throat Chakra is balanced,
We feel comfortable expressing ourselves,
Speaking our truth,
And communicating with clarity and authenticity.
This is the energy center that holds our ability to be heard,
To say what we mean,
To express what's true for us,
To ask for what we need.
When the Throat Chakra is balanced,
We speak with honesty and kindness.
We can say difficult things with grace.
We listen as deeply as we speak.
We use our voice to create connection rather than division.
We express ourselves without over-explaining or apologizing for our truth.
When it's out of balance,
We might feel silenced,
Unable to speak up,
Swallowing our words to keep the peace.
Or we might swing the other way,
Talking excessively,
Interrupting,
Using our voice to control or dominate conversations.
We might lie or exaggerate.
We might struggle to listen.
Sometimes this shows up physically,
Sore throats,
Tension in the neck and jaw,
Thyroid issues,
Or difficulty swallowing.
The themes of the Throat Chakra include authentic expression and truth,
Communication and speaking up,
Listening and being heard,
Creativity through voice and sound,
Honesty and integrity,
Asking for what you need,
Self-expression without apology.
The mantra or Bija seed we'll be working with for the Throat Chakra is hum.
We'll be working with this sound to activate and balance this energy center.
I encourage you to say it out loud,
Allow the vibration to activate this energy center,
Although if it's more comfortable you can say it silently in your mind.
But this practice is about finding your voice,
Not the voice that says what others want to hear,
But the voice that speaks your deepest truth.
If you haven't done so already,
Start to gently close the eyes.
Start to bring awareness to the breath.
Just notice the natural rhythm of your breathing.
Can you feel the breath moving in and out through the throat?
Notice how the body feels in this moment,
Especially the throat,
The neck,
The jaw.
Then let's start to deepen the breath,
Taking a full inhale through the nose and an open mouth sigh out.
Again,
Inhaling through the nose and with your exhale,
Letting any noises out of the mouth,
Any ahs,
Oohs,
Uhs,
Whatever naturally wants to come out.
One more time,
Inhaling through the nose exhale,
Release with any sound.
Now we're going to work with a breathing pattern that opens and activates the throat chakra,
The throat space.
We'll breathe in through the nose for a count of four,
Pause,
And exhale through the mouth with a sound for a count of six.
So again,
Just let any ahs,
Oohs,
Uhs naturally come out of your exhales.
This breath with the audible exhale helps activate the throat and release any tension or blockages.
So let's go ahead and start inhaling through the nose for one,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Exhale for six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Inhale one,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Exhale six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Are you remembering to let any sounds out of your exhales?
Continue this pattern on your own for a few more rounds.
Inhaling for four counts,
Exhale with any sounds for six counts.
Now start to let the breath return to its natural pace.
No more counting,
No more controlling,
Just breathing naturally,
Feeling the energy alive and vibrating gently in the throat space.
As you continue to rest here,
Connected to the throat chakra,
I invite you to gently explore some questions.
There's no need to force answers,
Just let the questions float through the awareness and see what arises.
These are all meant to be almost immediate answers that just come through as your truth without letting the mind,
The brain overthink and interrupt.
Where in your life do you feel most able to speak your truth,
Most authentic in your expression?
And where do you hold back?
Where do you silence yourself or swallow your words?
What truth have you been afraid to speak?
When do you say things you don't mean just to keep the peace?
What did you learn about using your voice as a child?
Was it safe for you to speak up?
Is there an old belief about being heard or being too much that's ready to be released?
Just notice what comes up,
No judgment,
Just curiosity.
Now imagine a clear,
Bright blue light glowing at the center of your throat,
Right at the base of the neck.
As you breathe,
Imagine this blue light expanding with each inhale.
This is your voice,
Your truth,
Your authentic expression.
Each inhale makes this blue light grow brighter,
Clearer,
More open.
Each exhale releases any words you've swallowed,
Any truths you've been afraid to speak,
Any tension from holding back.
With each inhale,
Draw the breath into the throat space,
Into the center of the neck.
With each exhale,
Let go of fear of judgment,
Fear of conflict,
Fear of being too much or not enough.
Feel this blue light clearing the channel,
Opening the throat,
Making space for your voice to emerge clearly and authentically.
The throat purifies,
It doesn't just speak,
It clears away what blocks honest expression.
With each inhale,
The blue light grows stronger,
Clearer,
More vibrant.
With each exhale,
Anything that keeps you silent is gently released.
Inhale,
Opening the throat.
Exhale,
Releasing what blocks your voice.
You are allowed to speak,
You are allowed to be heard,
You are allowed to express what's true for you.
Now,
If any emotions are starting to arise,
Move through,
Let them.
If there's frustration at all the times you stayed quiet,
Let it come.
If there's relief at finally giving yourself permission to speak,
Let it fill you.
If there's fear about what happens when you use your voice,
Let it be there.
The throat chakra holds so much,
Our unexpressed words,
Our withheld truths,
Our longing to be heard and understood.
Give yourself permission to feel whatever needs to be felt,
To let your voice begin to emerge.
Continuing to keep the awareness at the throat chakra.
If you'd like,
You can place the hand gently on the throat at the base of the neck,
Directing energy and attention to this area.
Or you can simply rest the hands wherever feels comfortable and use the mind's eye to focus on the throat space.
Visualize that color blue from earlier as a ball of spinning energy at the center of the throat.
If visualization is not your strength,
You can also say in your mind,
I command that a blue ball of spinning energy spins at the center of my throat.
Like a wheel of light,
Allow this blue ball to spin gently,
Glowing,
Clear,
And bright.
This is your throat chakra,
Your center of expression,
Truth,
And communication.
With each breath,
Send unconditional loving energy to the space,
Energy that says your voice matters,
Your truth is valid,
You deserve to be heard.
If you're using the hands,
Imagine calling in the life force energy,
The vibration of unconditional love through the palms of the hands and directing it to the throat chakra.
Sending energy that opens the throat,
Energy that clears blockages,
Energy that says it's safe to speak,
Safe to express,
Safe to use your voice.
As you breathe,
Continue to imagine or command this blue ball of energy becoming brighter,
Clearer,
More radiant.
Now,
If it feels comfortable,
Begin to silently or quietly chant the sacred Bija seed mantra for the throat chakra.
With each breath in,
Exhaling hum.
Continuing to chant silently in the mind or out loud,
Whatever feels right.
Elongating the vibration in the throat,
Feeling the vibration of the sound at the neck.
Start to release the mantra,
Just resting in the energy you've created.
As you continue to breathe,
Repeat these words silently or out loud.
I speak my truth.
My voice matters.
I express myself with clarity and kindness.
I am heard and understood.
It is safe for me to speak.
Take three more deep breaths,
Sealing this energy into the throat chakra.
Inhaling deeply,
Feeling the blue energy glowing brightly.
Exhale,
Anchoring this feeling of clear,
Authentic expression.
Inhaling,
Drawing in pure expression,
Honest communication,
True voice.
Exhale,
Letting the body settle into this expressive state.
One last inhale,
Filling up with your truth.
Exhale,
Releasing fully.
Slowly,
Begin to bring gentle movement back into the body.
Wiggling the fingers and the toes.
Maybe rolling the head from side to side,
Releasing any tension still left in the neck.
Keeping that sense of throat openness,
Even as you return to full awareness.
Maybe open and close the jaw a few times,
Swallow,
Feel the freedom in your throat.
When you're ready,
Take one more deep inhale through the nose,
And one long exhale out the mouth.
Gently,
In your own time,
Blink the eyes open when you're ready.
