Welcome.
This meditation takes you to a warm summer night on the beach.
You will feel the sand beneath your feet,
Smell the salt in the air,
Hear the waves,
And see the moonlight moving across the water.
This is not imagination,
This is memory.
Your body already knows a moment like this one.
When the mind is given rich sensory detail to follow,
It has less room for worry.
Anchor your attention in what you feel so that your nervous system can find its way to calm.
You don't need to visualize perfectly.
Impressions are enough.
And if your mind drifts somewhere else entirely,
Go with it.
Trust yourself,
As I am simply a guide.
Let's start to settle in now.
When you are ready,
Let your eyes close.
Take a slow breath in through your nose,
And a long breath out.
Let your jaw soften,
Your shoulders drop.
Allow the weight of your body to be fully received by whatever surface holds you.
And just take a minute to settle in.
Now imagine you are standing at the entrance of the beach.
It is a warm summer night.
You are standing on concrete.
It's solid and even beneath the soles of your feet.
Just feel the firmness of it.
The faint warmth it has held from the day's sun.
Just ahead of you,
The pavement ends and the sand begins.
You can already see it in the moonlight.
Pale and soft,
Waiting.
Take your first slow step forward.
Feel the moment your foot leaves the concrete and meets the sand.
It's cool,
Fine,
Giving way beneath you.
Something in you slows with it.
Now take a second step.
Let your toes press down deliberately.
Curl them gently.
Feel the grains shift and fill every small space around them.
Wiggle them slowly.
Let the sand receive you.
Take a long breath in through your nose.
Feel the warmth of the summer air move into your belly and then rising into your chest.
There is salt in this air.
Faint mineral richness.
The living smell of the ocean riding the breeze.
And now that breeze moves across your skin.
Cool and smooth.
Along your arms,
Your face,
The back of your neck.
There is no destination.
There is no pace to keep.
With every step,
Feel the quiet weight of your body pressing into that sand.
Feel your heels sink,
Your arches settle,
Your toes spread.
A gentle heaviness moves through your legs and your hips.
It's the kind that says you are here.
You are present.
You are held.
And now you begin to hear it faint at first and then closer.
The soft rhythmic sound of waves arriving at the shore.
A long exhale of water across sand.
A slow pull back.
Arriving and receding.
Just like your breath.
Breathe in as the wave arrives and out as it recedes.
In as it arrives.
Out as the wave recedes.
Visualize that for a few moments here.
You stay dry on the sand.
Keeping that coolness beneath your feet.
You pause and glance back over your shoulder.
You see the streetlights are smaller now.
Their orange glow soft and distant.
And yet,
The world around you is luminous.
You look up.
The moon.
Just nearly a full moon,
Suspended in a deep blue-black sky.
It's light is clean and silver.
Falling across the sand.
Across your hands.
Across your arms.
You are standing inside the moonlight.
And above you,
Stars are finding their way through.
Quiet and countless.
Scattered across the dark.
Like something spilled and left to shine.
Let your eyes rest on the water.
Watch the moonlight move across its surface.
Shimmering.
Shifting.
Reforming.
It asks nothing of you.
Let that monkey brain rest.
Every thought that tries to pull you away.
Acknowledge it and let it go.
Put the thought in the ocean and let it carry your thoughts away.
Watch the thought fade into the vast ocean.
Stay here now.
There is nowhere else to be.
This is your moment.
Let yourself settle into whatever feels right.
The sound of the water.
The coolness beneath your feet.
The light above you.
The salt in the air on your skin.
I will leave you here for a moment.
See what feels good and notice where you want to stay with it.
Gently begin to bring your awareness back to your breath.
Take a slow breath in.
Filling your belly first.
Then rising into your chest.
And a long breath out.
Slowly let a small movement come into your fingers.
Your toes.
Wiggle your ankles.
Your glutes.
If it feels right,
Shake your head left and right.
And when you are ready,
Let your eyes open slowly.
Take in the light around you without rushing.
The sand.
The salt air.
The light of the moon.
They stay with you.
Whenever you need to return,
You know the way.
Now take one final breath in.
And exhale.
Welcome back.
Have a lovely rest of your day.
