In the gray sky and spread snow of the early dawn,
A faint smell of the earth comes from some deeper place,
Reminding us of changes to come.
Even with months of winter to go,
Light comes a little earlier and stays a little later,
Changing how the air feels.
Before the glare of the day or some other distraction,
Use this time to move inward,
To be with yourself.
Let all else drop away,
All needs,
All musts,
All shoulds.
Free yourself to be a dear companion to yourself.
Gently return your consciousness to your physical body so that you fill yourself out with awareness.
Find all parts of your physical being,
Toes,
Feet,
Legs,
Knees,
Thighs,
Waist,
Chest,
Arms,
Elbows,
Hands,
Fingers,
Neck,
Head,
And face.
Take a similar wake-up tour through your emotional body.
Look in the musty corners and dim attics,
Those ancient places most in need of the light of truth.
No judgments about what you find,
Awareness,
Then expression.
After all of this,
There comes a moment of recognition,
A moment of some constant underneath everything.
Your spirit is there,
Here,
Pervading and infusing everything.
Indeed,
Spirit is not only in everything,
But everything is spirit.
May you slow enough this day to absorb the subtleties around you.
Your gift today is your sense of smell.
