In meditation,
The mode of listening can be a helpful one to get into.
We can listen to whatever sounds are present,
Or we can use a single sound as an anchor.
To start,
Just listen to the ambient sound around you,
Whatever that might be right now.
No need to do anything,
Just listen.
Just listen as if you're listening to music,
Inviting your body and mind to just wind down,
And settle in a moment.
No need to do anything,
Just listen.
One sound you might become aware of when listening in this open,
Receptive way is what is referred to as the sound of silence.
It is the background sound that is always there,
Not coming from any external sound source.
To me,
It sounds sort of like a white noise with a ringing quality to it.
The sound of silence can be a useful anchor for awareness,
If this kind of listening meditation resonates with you.
If you don't hear it yet,
Don't worry,
Just listen to whatever ambient sound you do hear now.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds,
A bit like looking at the screen of the telly itself,
Rather than looking at the various images popping up.
Even though it's subtle,
Other noises don't drown it out.
Therefore,
With practice,
It's a sound that always can be returned to.
So now,
Just listening,
Just being the listening for a while.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
Inviting awareness to settle down in the listening,
In the direct experience of sound here and now.
Don't worry about trains of thoughts or memories.
Leave the front and back door open.
Allow the thoughts to come and go.
Just don't serve them tea.
Just listen.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
When you are present,
You can allow the mind to be as it is without getting entangled in it.
Just being.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
Allowing yourself to settle into the peace of now.
Nothing to do.
Nothing to achieve.
Right now,
We are free of responsibility.
It's like this.
And it's all right.
In all its imperfection.
Seeing if you can grant yourself this spacious break.
If only for this moment.
Just letting life and nature happen.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
Really listening.
Letting the sound saturate your experience with all its fullness and brilliance.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
Within each of us,
There is a silence.
A silence as vast as the universe.
We long for it.
We can return to it.
Letting your attention from words to silence.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
The sound of silence appears to be on a different level than all other sounds.
