This meditation is a simple but powerful practice drawn from the kundalini yoga tradition called a meditation for when you don't know what to do.
It uses a rhythmic pattern of breathing through the nose and mouth to balance the hemispheres of the brain and unify the physical,
Mental,
And spiritual bodies.
The sequence,
Nose to mouth,
Mouth to mouth,
Nose to mouth,
And mouth to nose,
Invites focus,
Steadiness,
And inner harmony.
Use this practice when you feel uncertain,
Scattered,
Or unclear.
It's a recalibration through breath,
Returning you to centered awareness,
Insight,
And the quiet knowing of what's next.
Sit tall,
With the spine long and steady.
Anchor down through your tailbone,
And let your shoulders relax and your face soften.
Bring your hands to meet at the level of your chest,
One palm resting in the other,
With your thumbs crossed.
Your fingers are pointing upward in a relaxed way,
And feel as though your arms are light and easy,
With your shoulders free of tension.
Invite your gaze to come to the space between your eyebrows,
The third eye,
Soft and steady here.
Then gently shift your eyes towards the tip of your nose.
If that feels uncomfortable or creates strain,
Simply soften your focus,
Eyes about two-thirds closed,
Resting somewhere in front of you,
Relaxed and inwardly turned.
There's no need to force the gaze.
It's simply an invitation to direct your awareness inward.
This focus also puts pressure on the optic nerve,
Which stimulates the pituitary gland.
I'll begin guiding a breath pattern,
Four parts.
When breathing through the mouth,
Let the breath come through gently pursed lips,
As if you might try and whistle,
Or blow softly through a straw.
Each breath is slow,
Complete,
And even.
I'll guide you in,
And then let you hold the rhythm on your own.
And if you lose track of where you are,
Just start again with an inhale through the nose.
I'll begin the rhythm of breath now,
Inhaling through the nose,
Exhaling through the nose.
Inhale through the mouth,
Exhale through the mouth.
Inhale through the nose,
Exhale through the mouth.
Inhale through the mouth,
Exhale through the mouth.
Inhale through the mouth,
Exhale through the nose.
Inhale through the nose,
Exhale through the nose.
Inhale through the mouth,
Exhale through the mouth.
Inhale through the mouth,
Exhale through the mouth.
Inhale through the mouth,
Exhale through the nose.
Continue at your own pace,
Steady and strong.
Each breath is slow,
Complete,
And even.
Weave breath,
A conversation between the inner and outer worlds.
Each inhale,
Draw in clarity,
Balance,
Connection.
Exhale,
Release what no longer serves you.
Let the rhythm organize you,
Mind,
Body,
And spirit,
Aligning through breath.
Keep your spine tall.
Keep your gaze soft.
Stay with your breath.
Deep,
Complete,
Powerful.
Last full round of breath.
Let your breath return to its natural flow,
And rest your hands on your knees.
Close your eyes,
And sit in the quiet after the breath.
Sensing the stillness you've created.
Notice the balance,
Spaciousness,
And clarity that remains.
