I remember sitting on the end of the bed with a loved one of mine and the last few days of passing.

We'd been looking out of the window,

Watching the sun,

The birds,

And the leaves on the trees,

And imagining their grey room was somewhat other than it was.

They turned and said to me,

One of their biggest regrets was criticizing their body for most of their entire life,

For dieting,

And for being challenged by food.

They loved food and they loved cooking,

And yet it was such a challenge for them in their mind loop of eating and criticism.

They said how they now could eat whatever they wanted,

But they couldn't taste or smell anything.

They'd lost their sense of smell and taste a few months ago.

We talked about firsts and lasts,

And how each day is filled with firsts and lasts,

And we often don't know it.

How they longed for one last smell of their favorite flower,

And one last taste of their favorite food.

One last touch of loved one's faces.

And yet,

How can we know something is our first or our last?

And in truth,

We don't.

We are faced each day with moments upon moments,

And some will be our first and some will be our last.

And so the only way to truly savor these things and these moments is to walk from a place of being.

We get swept up by the busyness of society,

The busyness of our mind,

That we forget to be present.

We're functioning rather than being.

And so by stilling the mind,

Mastering the mind,

And allowing ourselves to come out and detach from the society's busyness allows us to walk from a place of being.

Allows us to fully experience moments,

Whether they be a first or a last.

We talked about how people forget to see their body as the reward system rather than food being used as reward or a treat or something to find a challenge.

How we forget to gift ourselves with those healthy thoughts,

With the experience of enjoyment rather than seeing things as an obstacle to overcome.

Society has allowed us to bite in to an image of what should be rather than allowing us to just be,

Allowing us to be the beautiful souls that we are within the human form we've been given.

To allow us to walk this earth from a place of grace rather than being swept up into what we are being told we should be.

We all have a place of wisdom.

People leaving this earth often hold wisdom as they know they're nearing their last and their first.

Gifting knowledge of hindsight,

Of awareness and awakening.

But we too carry this wisdom and knowledge.

We just forget to give it to ourselves.

What is your wisdom?

What is it you've learnt from the day you were born into this very day?

What is it you know about yourself and observe about yourself?

This wisdom is your power.

You have the power to master the mind,

To walk from the place of being,

To treat moments upon moments of being the joy even when the times are challenging.

Acknowledging the emotion and breathing it out and coming back to a place of being.

From this loved one of mine I know the last time that I held their hand.

At the time I wasn't aware that it was the last.

I came from a place of being,

Absorbing the moment,

Absorbing the experience of being.

And I am grateful that I came from that place,

That I hadn't rushed that moment in the busyness of life caught up in society's noise.

I am grateful that I know that was a last and it's imprinted as the beautiful loving space that it was.

I carry forward their wisdom.

The wisdom of acknowledging the firsts and the lasts within each and every moment as a reminder to be,

To come from a place of stillness within myself,

To be able to cherish the moments as they ebb and flow.

I wish for you moments of stillness.

Wishing you a heartfelt day.
