Hello and welcome to this first set of exercises in helping you define your purpose.
It's a set of exercises which will help you get yourself into the right frame of mind.
Get yourself used to the type of inquiry that we will be diving into later on.
Hello there,
My name's Martin Kreese-Morris and I've put together these series of exercises because I consider that understanding and living our purpose is critical.
You remember from the first recording,
We consider that purpose is the unique gift that we bring to the world.
And it's not a job or a profession or a title.
It's not some sort of life goal or objective.
And it's not a better version of what other people would like us to be.
So we understand that attaching our identity to anything other than purpose is perhaps worthless because purpose forms our real identity that no one can take from us.
So let's have a foray into the first of these exercises.
They're short but they're just designed to make you think.
And the first one is a well-being assessment.
And this just looks at various aspects of your life and just requires you to score them out of ten.
From one being poor to ten being excellent.
So you may like a pen and a piece of paper at this stage.
And the first area of your life you should consider is your career.
Basically,
How do I feel about my career?
Is it going very well?
Could it be better?
Is it going extremely badly?
And just take a moment to reflect on your career.
Maybe you have halted being in the workplace for the time being for very good reasons.
Or maybe you're not working because of circumstances beyond your control.
And understand that these assessments,
You know,
It's all a work in progress.
These are elements of your life that you can revisit at any time.
So career,
Just take a moment to reflect.
The next area of your life is your social life,
Your life outside work.
Friends and family,
Particularly.
Are you very well connected?
And remembering that if you're an extrovert,
Your view of social activity will be one thing.
And if you're an introvert,
Your social activity would be quite different.
Introverts tend to be less socially active.
It's principally because they get their energy from going inwards rather than going outwards.
But your social life,
As I say,
Friends and family,
How do you feel about it?
How would you score it out of ten?
Take a moment to reflect on what you feel about it,
How it feels to you,
What you think about it.
And the next area of your life is financial.
It will vary according to which stage of your life you are in.
If you're just establishing,
Maybe you have a mortgage,
Maybe you have loans.
Financially,
This time of your life can be quite difficult.
Maybe you're considerably older,
Maybe very well established.
Or maybe you have been established and circumstances have changed.
But again,
How is your financial situation?
And you can also get a sense maybe that these elements we're looking at are obviously interconnected.
Like career and financial,
For example.
So how do you score your finances out of ten?
Then the next aspect of your life is the physical aspect of your life.
Your health,
Your physical activity.
Are you very healthy?
Have you had challenges to your health?
Do you take a lot of exercise or do you not have enough exercise?
Maybe exercise isn't always possible for you.
Maybe you're so busy with your career that the physical side is neglected.
But how do you feel about the physical aspects of your life?
Do you feel well?
Is your life in order?
Is it one of physical difficulty?
And again,
Reflecting on that.
Then the next aspect of your life is community.
So this is your engagement with the world outside your family and friends.
Are you engaged in community activity?
It can be community activity.
Members of,
Say,
A reading group or a cycling group.
Whatever community means to you,
How do you feel about it?
Is it very difficult or is it extremely good?
Are you very much engaged?
Does your life allow you to be engaged?
Are you working so hard that you have very little time for community?
Or are you not very interested in community?
But you remember,
If you've seen the series on the Blue Zones,
That community plays an important part of our lives,
That connectedness.
So community,
In whatever way it means to us,
How do you score that?
Then the final one is the spiritual aspects of your life,
In whatever way you would understand that.
Or maybe it's not an important part of your life at all.
But if you interpret spiritual as connected to something,
A higher order of existence,
Meaning,
Finding meaning outside our everyday lives,
However you perceive that to be.
Maybe it's religiously based,
Maybe it's based in nature,
Maybe it's based in a sense of the universe,
In whichever way you interact with it.
But how do you feel about your life in the spiritual aspects of the world?
Do you have any time to do this?
And as you do these reflections,
Just understand,
Why is the score that you've given these elements of your life,
Why is it at that particular level?
Are you happy about that?
Could it be better?
And so,
As I say,
The first of these exercises is a fairly high level process,
Which is really taking stock of,
Taking order of your general well-being.
So thank you for listening,
Thank you for doing this.
And there will be another fairly high level assessment of your life in the next set of exercise recording.
Thank you.
