Hello and welcome to this talk about burnout and decision fatigue.
So.
Burnout is something that we are It's a very familiar thing.
It's on the surface.
I don't want to say it's a buzzword,
But.
.
.
We discuss it often,
In many different circles,
Many different circumstances.
Decision fatigue is maybe a less popular theme.
For discussion but it's becoming more and more prominent and present in our experience.
This is partly connected with the rise of new technology,
Newest forms of assisted thinking,
Processing,
Utilizing artificial intelligence.
All these forms of acceleration that we experience and all the expectation that comes with them,
The expectation,
The pressure on us,
As intellectual workers to be able to process more information and essentially make more decisions on a daily basis.
All of this shows up as decision fatigue.
So it is very simple.
It is just a feeling or a state of overwhelm.
Our human mind.
By the amount of decisions,
Small junctions of decision-making that we need to cross,
Turn,
And make our call within.
Normally we would make a couple of.
.
.
Medium important decisions per day,
Sometimes per week,
And maybe maximum one important decision per month.
Now we are able to process one important decision every couple of days because the products,
The intellectual products that we produce They have lost their routine component,
The reading,
The writing,
The research,
The comparison,
The careful selection of images.
And a lot of the cognitive load on us.
As humans is relieved.
But.
.
.
We need to make important decisions,
Strategic decisions,
Faster and more frequently.
So these are really the differences.
We get tired of making decisions.
When we have to make them every day.
On the contrary burnout happens of course because of many reasons often because of misalignment often because the cycle of our project of our work demands the season of rest and we still keep pushing forward with our productivity expectations.
But very often,
Burnout is,
On the contrary,
Connected with repetitive routine work that is no longer in alignment with our patience,
With our resource,
With our commitment.
We cannot uphold it.
It's too much and we burn out.
It's also often connected with stress,
Maybe sometimes with toxic environment,
With many many things,
But if you Take those two really oversimplified situations.
Where a person on the one hand can make some long,
Tiresome routine research and take maybe one decision per many,
Many days to complete this product,
Write an article,
Write a book,
Create a video or something.
Then this person can burn out from the amount of effort.
On the other hand,
If the same person outsources their routine,
And it doesn't matter if the outsourcing is placed with an artificial digital tool or maybe some assistants,
Helpers,
People who are doing this routine work.
Instead of this person,
So the person in question.
Can develop decision fatigue.
Now,
What's the practical conclusion,
Practical importance of this distinction?
So we as intellectual workers,
As creators,
Changemakers,
Leaders.
.
.
We have our agency.
Channel into the world.
Our mission to fulfill.
And it is our responsibility to maintain our resource.
And often our resource gets challenged or sometimes even damaged.
Do the damage control,
We need to know the causes.
Offset damage.
And when we suspect ourselves in burnout and we try to relieve ourselves maybe by offering us more regulation,
More creativity,
Interesting hobbies,
Distractions,
Or even thinking about changing the work that we do because we have assessed this work as no longer inspiring enough for us and supportive enough for us and that we have burned out.
We risk.
Making a wrong decision.
If we don't consider that potentially we may be experiencing decision fatigue instead of burnout.
Yeah,
Because.
.
.
Decision fatigue is different and there is a different recipe how to deal with it.
Instead of offering yourself more.
Creative challenges,
Or a new environment?
You might find comfort in predefined routines.
Maybe using some habit trackers.
Maybe sticking with something.
Maybe thinking and integrating.
Your knowledge before making some conclusions even if the resources at hand,
The potential for outsourcing,
Allows you to produce quickly you can consciously choose to slow down instead.
You can slow down even now.
While listening,
Take in a deep breath.
Thinking about project,
A task at hand,
An idea.
And trying to redirect your thinking.
From the shortest and most efficient way of how to complete it.
Into the most experiential lived,
Fell.
Embodied.
Integrated way.
Consciously taking it slow.
Consciously pulling it back into the manual.
Into the labor into.
The Slow life.
I will leave you with this to consider.
To practice on your own.
And I wish you Best of luck and wisdom on your creative journey.
