Welcome,
Dear listening friend.
How lovely that you've tuned in to this guided sleep meditation,
Here to gently accompany you on your journey into sleep.
Because now is the perfect moment to let go,
To settle,
And to surrender into the softness of the night.
My name is Paola Pissou and it's a pleasure and privilege to be your guide and travel companion during this meditation,
As we embark on a journey that suits you towards slumber,
And yet also leads you through dreamlike landscapes full of lucidity,
Where you might begin to wonder,
Am I awake or asleep or dreaming?
And within your dream,
You may shape your dream to your will.
But for now,
You are exactly where you're meant to be,
In a place of calm and quiet,
At the crossroads where the day melts into night.
And I assume your body is resting,
Held,
Supported,
And you are free to surrender to gravity and peace.
Your head rests,
Perhaps already a little heavier than a few minutes ago,
Upon your pillow.
And the good news is that there's absolutely nothing you need to do.
There's nowhere you need to be.
You're fully allowed to simply be.
And I ask you now to take a deep breath in,
And softly out.
Once more,
A little deeper in,
And slowly out.
And again,
All the way in,
Hold for four counts,
And let it all go.
Breathing in the now,
Because breath only ever exists in the present,
Never in the past.
And never in the future.
Breathing always happens now,
So remain here.
I invite you to stay here for just a few quiet moments,
With your full and loving awareness,
Gently resting upon the simple magic of breathing in.
And breathing out.
Notice right now how your body rests so naturally upon this familiar surface.
How your shoulders are beginning to soften,
And how your legs grow heavier.
As if the earth itself were drawing you gently downwards,
Down and down,
All the way down.
Your breath,
All by itself,
Is becoming slower,
Calmer.
Your eyes,
Perhaps already a little tired,
As though a soft blanket were drawn over your gaze and your eyelids.
Growing heavier and heavier with every breath.
Let them close now,
Gently,
As part of your journey into sleep.
Perhaps a few thoughts still drift across your mind,
Remnants of the day still floating.
And you know,
That's perfectly fine.
Let them come and let them go,
Like all thoughts simply do.
Breathe in deeply once more,
And gently out.
And slowly in,
And gently out.
There's nothing you need to hold on to.
You may let go.
The day is behind you and the night receives you with open arms.
You're safe here,
Completely safe.
You are welcome,
And we are setting off now on a journey into sleep.
A journey where you may encounter all sorts of things,
Where you look outward but also inward.
Towards who you truly are,
And towards the quiet longings that rise to the surface,
Revealing themselves with ease and grace.
There so often happens when we wander,
When we gently drift and surf through life.
Perhaps you've already noticed how your breath is becoming slower now,
A little more gentle.
Your inner gaze softening as though the world is slipping gently out of focus,
And drifting quietly into the background.
Let it all go.
There's nothing you've got to hold on to.
You can release control,
Space,
Time and every expectation for a little while.
We are setting out step by step,
Breath by breath.
Travelling ever deeper within.
You're about to embark on a journey,
A journey to sleep.
Let's wander around for a time.
Are you ready?
That's right.
Then let us begin.
Imagine now,
Just imagine,
You're standing on a small old picturesque platform belonging to a railway station,
Somewhere in a no man's land between dream and reality.
And everything around you seems to stand still,
Completely still.
You hear almost nothing,
Except for the gentle hush of the wind.
There's something indefinable in the air.
You sense it,
An atmosphere of anticipation,
As though something marvellous is just about to unfold.
The sky is a deep velvety blue and golden stars are beginning to glisten,
As if proud of the soft diffused light that surrounds them.
You catch the scent of damp earth.
It has rained,
But now it's dry.
And something in you,
Curious,
Alert,
Senses that the journey is now really about to begin.
You're standing there alone,
And yet you don't feel lonely at all.
In the far distance you see a light appear,
A warm gentle glow,
Slowly drawing nearer.
And from that same distance,
A sound begins to reach your ears.
A rhythmic humming,
Something strangely familiar.
It grows closer.
The sound belongs to something vast,
And then you see it.
A train,
But not just any train.
This one seems to shimmer,
As though crafted from stardust,
Woven together from a thousand dreams.
This train is unlike any ordinary train.
It appears to glow from within,
Lit by the memories,
Passion and longing of all those travellers who have gone before you on their own journey into sleep.
The train slows to a halt,
And a carriage comes to rest precisely in front of you.
The doors slide open with a satisfying clunk,
And without a word,
You know deep down inside that you're welcome here,
And you step aboard.
Inside the carriage,
It's still,
But something almost magical lingers in the air.
There's a gentle scent of lavender and warm wood.
The seats are draped in soft midnight blue velvet,
And the ambient light in the carriage seems to breathe,
Breathing with you.
Your eyes catch a soft golden glow,
Diffused and serene,
And although you are alone here,
You feel at ease whilst the journey continues,
And you take your seat.
Let your eyes drift shut for a moment,
Allowing your senses to take over,
And as the train begins to move at a pleasant pace,
You find yourself sinking slowly.
Can you feel how the rhythm of the wheels matches the rhythm of your breath?
Totally in sync.
And while you gently sway,
You drift deeper and deeper into rest.
With every turn the train takes,
You release something.
A thought,
A worry,
Or perhaps a muscle softening,
Releasing tension to relax.
Or,
Whatever it is,
You are ready to let go with ease.
You exhale and sink even deeper into relaxation.
The sounds outside begin to fade.
Time and space begin to blur.
You're already following your own path inward.
Towards peace,
Towards yourself.
And in the meantime,
The train is taking you somewhere.
You don't yet know where,
But you feel safe,
Curious,
And completely at ease.
You look out of the window and the world has changed.
It's far from an ordinary world,
And this is becoming increasingly apparent as time flies by.
The trees shimmer softly in the light the moon seems to scatter.
The rivers sing quietly as they flow.
Far in the distance you see lanterns rising,
Little glowing orbs that carry wishes.
Or are they stories lifting into the sky,
Only to return later?
Falling gently into dreams.
The landscape keeps changing,
Ever shifting before your mind's eye.
At first there are forests,
But not the kind you've ever seen before.
The trees are whispering,
Their leaves glowing faintly in the starlight.
Light that dances when your gaze touches it.
As if these trees hold ancient truths and stand ready to share them with you.
And the train,
The train glides through fields where the flowers bloom right before your eyes.
Revealing their inner beauty with every breath you take.
As if your breathing itself brings the world alive.
And all of a sudden the train begins to slow down.
Slowing down even more and more.
Until finally the mighty machine bumps to a gentle halt.
The doors slide open and you step out,
Feeling full of quiet expectation.
And some moments later you find yourself standing in a landscape that feels both strange and deeply familiar.
You realize that it's a place that exists only in your dreams.
As if it were woven from magical fragments of your own life.
And it feels dreamlike and enchanting to be here.
The quest continues and you walk along a path of smooth glowing stones.
They pulse gently beneath your feet,
Offering a soft massage with every step.
As if they are delighted by your presence,
Welcoming you with warmth.
With every footfall you feel yourself becoming lighter.
It's as though you're walking through time,
Through time,
Through space and through memory lane.
You pass moments that belong to your own story,
Your own history.
A smile beneath summer trees.
A quiet moment shared with someone you once loved.
A leap into the unknown.
A missed opportunity.
But there's no regret here and no judgment.
Only wonder and peace.
Life reveals itself as it was,
As it is and as it may yet become.
As you dreamily wander through this amazing world.
And as you wander you come to a tree.
It's immense,
Ancient.
Its trunk is as wide as a house and its branches reach for the stars.
It reminds you of the tree of life with its great outstretched arms.
And at the base of this tree,
Leaning against its vast trunk,
You see someone sitting,
Wrapped in stillness.
And as you approach,
The figure turns slowly to face you and you see yourself,
But not quite,
As you know yourself.
This version of you carries something ancient and wise.
A stillness,
A depth,
A knowing,
As though it were your soul wrapped in your form.
Appeared here especially for you to guide you through this part of your dreamy journey towards sleep.
Your inner guide smiles at you with quiet encouragement.
No words are spoken,
Yet there is a clear understanding,
A deep inner knowing,
A shared language beyond all words.
The guide rises and together you walk in silence that speaks.
Through the forest,
Past towering trees,
Deeper and deeper still,
Until you reach a flowing river.
And there,
Moored gently by a rope,
Rests a small boat,
Waiting.
You both step inside.
The boat is solid,
Simple,
Made of wood.
And without a sound,
The rope unties itself and the boat begins to drift.
Carried not by oars,
But by the current,
Or perhaps carried by your own quiet longing.
Your longing to know,
To feel,
To remember,
To journey into this small sacred adventure.
You drift past dreamlike lands,
Or are they scenes once glimpsed in daydreams,
In childhood reverie,
Or forgotten imagination?
Each place you pass carries a message.
Each gentle stop offers a cherished insight.
This becomes even clearer when the boat docks at a mirror island.
A place where mirrors and reflections await you everywhere you look.
You step ashore,
As does your guide,
And together you walk quietly through this mirrored island.
But these mirrors do not show your appearance.
At first you seem invisible,
And then,
Slowly,
You begin to understand that these mirrors reveal feelings and beliefs.
Feelings born of old beliefs,
Old judgements,
About yourself,
Or the ones others once held of you.
You see fragments of who you once thought you were.
And it becomes undoubtedly clear these beliefs were never really you,
Just projections,
Others seeing themselves reflected in you,
Casting shadows which you mistakenly took as truth.
Your guide leans in and gently whispers,
I wonder,
What are you ready to let go of now?
What can be released now that you've seen so clearly what was reflected back at you?
And what gift may come to you in return,
Gift of growth,
Of goodness,
Of deep trust in your own inner compass?
You glance once more into the mirrors.
Some reflections smile back at you with warmth,
While others vanish the moment you meet their gaze.
And your guide says softly,
All that ever was is now seen in a different light.
It can lead you to fresher reflections,
To a new perspective entirely.
Without exchanging a further word,
You leave the island together.
You step back into the boat,
And it glides one more quietly down the river.
You sit in silence,
And you can feel the peace growing within you,
Watching how gently the water parts as you pass through.
A dragonfly lands just for a moment on the surface.
Its wings shimmering,
A beautiful creature to be admired.
You float onwards,
Heart calm,
Soul steady.
And soon you arrive at a green valley filled with kites,
Floating freely without strings.
They have been released,
Freed from all that once held them back,
And they soar.
Truly,
They soar.
And you've stepped out of the vessel again,
Standing now in the tall wild grasses,
Taking in this dreamscape.
And your guide,
Standing beside you,
Lets you know,
Each one of those kites,
Each is a dream you once held.
And they're still out there,
Waiting for you.
The whole sky shimmers with possibility.
What you long for,
Your guide says,
Longs for you.
It finds its way to you,
Especially when you stop chasing and open your arms to receive.
That's when more wonders unfold than you ever thought possible.
How beautiful it is to consider what may come to you when you loosen your grip,
When you live a little lighter,
Free from worry,
Free from pressure.
To float like a kite unbound,
Its string released,
So it may stretch its wings and truly fly.
With that gentle image still fresh in your mind,
You return to the boat,
Your guide beside you.
Both of you quiet now,
Held in a sacred stillness,
Knowing how deeply freeing peace can be.
This feels like coming home to yourself.
And as you feel this truth settle in,
The journey carries on.
The vessel moving downriver once more.
Through forest that grows denser now,
More lush,
Yet filled with a deep serene calm.
And you listen to the soft sounds,
The water lapping gently,
The boat gliding and birds singing cheerfully,
Unaware of your passing.
You're simply drifting on a journey toward sleep.
And then,
Through the thick greenery,
A faint light appears.
A subtle glow between the trees.
While you float closer,
You make out the silhouette of a building,
A temple it seeks.
And you and your guide step ashore.
You walk toward it and find yourself breathless at the sight.
A temple made entirely of light.
Its walls are translucent,
And within,
At its centre,
A fire burns.
Not a fire that destroys,
But one that warms,
Deeply,
Gently.
And you are invited now to enter this luminous sanctuary.
And you step inside,
Into the light,
Into the stillness.
And at the very heart of the temple you stand,
With a fire glowing all around you.
You feel something soften,
Melt at the centre of your chest,
As though something long hidden is opening.
An old longing,
A quiet truth,
So gentle,
So profound.
No voice is heard,
But a message is felt.
A truth spoken not in sound,
But in soul.
You are whole.
You've always been whole,
Even when it didn't feel that way.
You need nothing outside of yourself,
For you carry love and comfort and fulfilment within.
When you act from courage,
Not from fear,
You stand in your wholeness.
Where vulnerability is strength,
Where asking for help is wisdom,
And you will always know who's truly there for you.
The time has come to leave this sacred centre,
And with reverence you take small steps backward,
Never losing your connection to the fire.
And as you step outside once more,
Your guide is waiting,
With eyes filled with kindness,
With compassion.
You both smile,
No words are needed,
And you simply know it's time now to return.
The boat is ready.
And you drift quietly across waters now tinged with the colours of dreams.
The places you visited,
The worlds you wandered,
Begin to dissolve like the mist at dawn.
But what you received remains,
Held within you,
A precious memory.
It stays with you.
And its gentle presence will echo in the days to come.
Your guide looks at you one last time.
No sound,
But you hear the words anyway.
You never need to search for me.
I'm always here,
Always within you.
And then your guide starts to dissolve into light,
Into your dreams,
Leaving behind a quiet blessing,
A hand upon your heart,
While you merge with a light that never fades.
The boat trip has come to an end,
And you return to the train,
To your carriage.
And slowly,
Gently,
The train begins to move in its familiar rhythm,
Softly,
Slowly,
Until it becomes nothing more than your own breathing,
Steady,
Gentle,
At ease.
Your body feels heavy,
Safe,
Still.
Each breath is calm,
Unhurried.
Sleep has already begun to wrap itself around you,
And you rest nestled in your own warmth.
Your eyes are still closed,
And you feel yourself sinking back into your body,
Into your bed.
The mattress beneath you is firm,
Supportive.
You feel held.
And for just a moment,
You're aware of your feet,
Your legs,
Your chest,
Rising and falling.
Falling with your breath.
Your home.
The journey is over,
Or perhaps it has only just begun.
Either way,
All is well.
There's nothing left to do.
You can simply rest and drift.
Sleep lays its blanket over you,
Soft,
Still,
Generous.
Let it all float away.
Drift now.
Let go.
There's nothing to hold on to.
You've passed the need to understand.
Now it's just breathing and sleeping.
Surrendering to sleep.
Let it take you.
The day has long faded,
Sunk beyond the horizon like the setting sun.
And you,
You may sink now into a dream without end.
Tomorrow will return on its own with new softness new clarity.
But now,
Now there's only this,
The stillness between worlds,
Day and night,
Waking and sleeping,
Held in the silence that dreams are made of.
You can let go now.
Sleep.
Let yourself dissolve gently into the arms of the night.
You are safe.
You are healthy.
You are home.
Sleep well now,
Beautiful dreamer.
Your guide watches within you and over you forever.
