In the quiet spaces between tasks and to-dos, we often reach for distraction. But what if those in-between moments could become a source of renewal? This talk invites you to pause, breathe, and restore your sense of presence. It’s a gentle reminder that time isn’t something to kill, but something to return to. Again and again.

Every day there are moments,

Often many of them,

When we're doing nothing special.

We're sitting in the doctor's office,

Waiting to be called.

We're counting the minutes till we have to log on to Zoom.

We're biding time till our partner comes home from the office.

We're apt to fill these moments idly,

Not wanting to give ourselves fully to anything since we don't know how many minutes we have.

But maybe,

Instead of killing time,

We can restore it.

Instead of doing something with half our heart,

We can do almost nothing with all our being.

Maybe,

Instead of drifting and dawdling,

We can begin again.

Put on some music and close your eyes.

Quiet music,

Perhaps,

But any kind of music that lifts you up.

Fill yourself with a melody.

Let your mind relax.

Do nothing at all.

Give yourself to the rising chords as to a flight of birds.

You're walking along a wide,

Deserted beach with no one in sight.

There's no need to think anything.

No call to look around the room.

There's nowhere else you have to be.

Nothing else you need to do.

Give yourself over to where the moment is.

Take a deep breath.

Open your eyes.

The world looks fresh,

Reborn.

You've made a bed for your mind to rest in.

A reminder of what you can do this afternoon when you're waiting at the doctor's office.

What you can do tomorrow after you board the plane.

Time is all we have.

And we can find all the time in the world.

Give yourself a break and you become something new.

Turn some of your senses off so you can live in the one that remains.

Give yourself over to what's beyond all words and ideas and begin again.

And again.

And again.
