All religions agree the answer is Love. Religious experience is very similar. When our pain is up, it can help to read about the Catholic saints, what they say about suffering. They don't call it Prasad as Amma does, but they point to its benefits — it purifies us. Amma calls it Prasad because it helps us burn karma and leave our emotional complexes behind, so we can express our true Nature. The example of Padre Pio shows this clearly. What he taught and lived was so similar to Amma’s teachings. Eastern and Western spiritual traditions seem different but on deeper levels they agree on the need to pray, become purer in thought, word and deed, and serve humanity. Saints sometimes faced great difficulties but kept their faith and persevered. That is what works. When emotional pain is high, we can help ourselves by gathering in satsang, by reminding ourselves of a beneficent Creator/Universe. This brings us back to our hearts, to peace.
