Grief and loss are like tornadoes.
They scoop us up with unpredictable force,
Casting us and our emotions far and wide,
Stretching us beyond our capacities and depleting our resources in the process.
But the truth is,
If we dig deep enough,
We will find within our vulnerability,
We have incredible untapped reserves.
They are designed to help us at the time of greatest need.
But we need to push beyond the wall of pain to discover this well of strength and fortitude.
It's important,
Whatever our challenges and tragedies,
That we don't let them define us and we don't let the sea of circumstances determine our fate.
In these moments,
We need to remind ourselves that we can't change the direction of the wind,
But we can adjust our sails to always reach our destination.
So it's time to learn to adjust your sails.
As you connect with this moment,
Think of someone you have lost from your life,
In whatever way that might be.
This does not necessarily mean they have died,
They might just no longer feature in your daily existence.
This is someone that whenever your mind goes to them,
There's a pang of sadness or pain,
Possibly feelings of regret and maybe guilt.
So take some time now to think of a significant person that fits this profile.
Your emotional reality will have been stirred in some way,
And that's to be expected.
Because when we've lost someone significant to us,
There are always feelings of grief and sadness.
There are often feelings of regret for those things we have not expressed.
There are often thoughts and feelings we wished we had had the courage to say,
But never got round to saying for whatever reason.
In today's meditation,
This is an opportunity to speak to that person from your heart.
But before you do,
Take some time now to really connect with what it is that you're feeling.
It's so easy to speak from a place of impulse,
But impulse misses as much as it sees.
Which is why it can do so much harm.
So take some time now to reflect on exactly what you want and need to say.
You have now clarified what is in your heart and what it is you need to say.
So,
In the silence that follows,
Speak to this person from the deepest part of you.
And say those things that you really want to say,
That may never have been said.
It's really important not to hold back.
This is your opportunity to find resolution and peace.
Hopefully by now you've been able to get some of what you've been feeling out of your system.
And there is some relief that comes with that.
But remember,
This is an opportunity to speak from the heart.
And so without apology,
Ensure that you do,
Holding nothing back.
So search within to see what else needs to be said,
And express that now.
There is an incredible sense of relief that comes from speaking from your heart.
At this point,
You may not have said everything that needs to be said,
But you've made good progress.
If you have said all that you need to say,
Then you can leave today's excursion content in the knowledge that what needed to be said has been expressed.
If,
On the other hand,
You feel there's more to be said,
Then you can come back and complete the conversation as and when time allows.
Whatever the position,
You've taken an important step today towards healing something that has probably called for your attention for some time.
Whenever we have the courage to speak our truth,
We are made whole.
Grief and loss are emotions none of us can avoid.
In one form or another,
They will come to our door.
So whenever you can,
Seek to meet them with grace,
Poise and courage,
And you will find a way to a better place.
Before making your way back to whatever it is you need to do next,
Realize that something special has occurred today,
And make the promise that whenever you need to take this journey,
And it may be for different reasons at different times,
But whenever it is,
You'll not shy away from this.
To complete the task today,
Just take a moment to ensure there's nothing else you want to say.
Remember,
You can't change the direction of the wind,
But you can adjust your sails to always reach your destination.
So keep adjusting your sails,
And you'll be able to meet life with grace,
Dignity,
Poise and strength.
