Today I want to share with you the story and intention behind a song that's been with me this spring,
And through that share you'll learn the main line,
The melody,
Should you wish to weave it into your days.
The core strand of this song arrived two months ago now as I was driving a new route to a new job and felt my thoughts project to the future.
I noticed,
I do have big celebration there,
I noticed in the moment and I wanted something that would tether me here to the present.
So I began prayer singing as I do and out came,
Be here,
Be with,
And I could feel the syllable be wanted to be sung again.
And now one of the things I tend to need the most reminding of these days is my connection with the great web.
Common phrases like,
You are not alone,
Emphasize and call forth the idea and energy of being alone,
Which I did not need more of.
So rather,
I wanted to remind myself that I'm connected with the sacred web of life at all times,
With the streams,
The fish,
The bountiful bacteria living in my body,
Which is an ecosystem in and of itself,
Allowing me to digest food among many other functions,
The stones,
The sand,
The clouds,
The ancestors,
Sharing air with creatures no longer,
The grandmother who taught her grandchild how to appreciate the beauty and gift of flowers,
Who is now in his elder years himself teaching me,
The prayers,
All the ones who bless and nourish through their actions,
Energy,
Prayers,
Kindnesses,
The light of the stars,
The love emanating from new life and death and all the transitions in between on this spiral journey.
I wanted to remind myself that with this web,
I belong.
And knowing this,
What came out of my mouth was,
Be here,
Be with,
Belong together.
And often I'll sing little ditties while driving or walking or almost anything throughout the day,
But it's not so often that I really enjoy a melody.
And I rather liked this line,
But I had no way to record.
I was driving to work and I could feel this melody was going to slip away quickly.
And so I looped it,
Kind of like when you repeat a phone number,
You can say it over and over,
But you don't have them really in your memory.
You just can't stop repeating until you have a pen to jot it down.
So I sang those three lines over and over and over again for 15 minutes straight until I'd safely arrived at my destination and could record a quick vocal file on my phone before heading in for work.
Be here,
Be with,
Belong together.
Be here,
Be with,
Belong together.
This song then began to accompany me throughout the days,
Reminding me to be present,
To be with whatever's here in this moment,
Whatever texture,
Emotion,
And so forth.
And another day,
On a walk,
A second line emerged.
Now,
What's here,
Experience,
Sensation.
As someone who has been deeply immersed in somatic experiencing,
Nervous system education,
And closely tracking sensations since about 2021,
I'm often choosing to place my attention on sensations as they arise in the body.
And so this phrase reminds me to be with the sensations that are here,
Now.
And the line could stand on its own,
But I also found it could be sung alongside be here,
Weaving together and completing phrases.
Be here,
Now,
Be with what's here.
Kind of like a secret message.
These melodies stayed with me another week or two,
Until more lines emerged one day while cooking.
It was a lot of fun.
And it just so happened they could overlay all four parts sung at the same time and they went together.
So you can hear the full thing in the track called A Pocket Song for being with what's here.
And you have the core lines,
The melody,
If you'd like to weave into your days,
If it resonates with you.
This tune has been helping me remember,
Returning me to my body,
To the present,
This spring season.
And I wonder for you,
Is there something,
This life season,
That does the same for you?
Whether it's a phrase,
An action,
A visual,
And visual can be an actual,
A tree,
A photo,
A piece of art,
A card,
A mug,
Or a place,
A piece of jewelry,
Your breath.
Is there one small thing that anchors you into your present?
If so,
Bringing it to mind now,
Imagining yourself connecting with it to strengthen that reminder.
And if not,
If nothing's coming to mind,
I'll leave you with the wondering.
Is there one support root you'd like to illuminate and strengthen this week or this season?
Something already in your life,
Simple,
Something that already feels present.
I invite you to seed an intention,
If it feels right,
To connect with that,
That mantra,
That reminder,
Whatever it is,
Once a day this week,
To see the visual.
My,
The pocket song I shared today,
That core line,
It takes about nine seconds to sing,
So nothing big.
And I'll leave you with that,
With that wondering.
If you'd like to share,
You can comment,
I will cheer you on.
And thank you for being here.
Go well and rooted into your day.
