Humanity is in trouble.
Our way of living has brought tremendous suffering and destruction to this planet.
Earth is asking us now to weave ourselves back into the web of life,
To learn to live in harmony with all beings.
This demands from us to radically change the way we relate to each other and the world.
It seems like an impossible challenge,
But there are resources available we can tap into to help us.
Deep within our wild psyche is a part of ourselves that hasn't forgotten how to live in right relationship,
That knows how to speak the universal language of all beings and can guide us into transforming ourselves and ultimately humanity.
That's why this podcast came into existence,
To help us change our inner worlds so that we can build a different world on the outside.
By connecting to the wild within us,
We also connect to the wild around us and maybe give it a chance to regenerate.
So the wild we're speaking about here is a part of yourself that remembers that it is interconnected with nature,
That knows how to listen with the whole body,
The part that has its brain in your guts,
The part that speaks a language of all beings,
Your inner shaman,
Deeply connected to the cosmic forces and the web of life from where it receives nourishment,
Wisdom and guidance.
Don't expect it to reveal itself fully to you right away.
Depending on how you have been living,
This part remained hidden for most of your adulthood.
Maybe you have given it some outlets to express itself or maybe you have suppressed and even penalized it for showing up.
Many of us have.
I certainly did.
I can't count the times I've suppressed the voice of my wild self and allowed my rational mind to take over instead of listening to the intuitive wisdom within me.
The hardest in my life was,
In some ways still is,
To trust that voice,
To get my anxious mind out of the way and to allow that deeper and wiser part of me to lead me into unknown terrain,
Trusting that it knows more than I could think of.
So please give it some time.
You can use the following guided meditation as often as you need,
Until you establish a connection and can access that part without outer guidance.
Because we have repressed it,
It might take some time until that part trusts in you again.
As in every relationship,
Establishing trust may take time.
But if you give it the time,
I promise you it will enrich your life in ways you'll have never expected.
My wild self helped me to heal from abusive trauma.
By connecting to her and allowing her to lead me through the darkness of my pain to a place where I was safe and unbroken,
I was able to find peace.
She connected me to the unconditional and abundant love that Mother Earth has for us.
Through that love,
I was able to heal my wounds.
And with time,
I emerged into life again,
Into healthy relationships,
With healthy boundaries,
Love and respect.
I now feel at home on this living planet,
Held by Mother Earth's love and guided by her wisdom.
Before that,
I was aimlessly wandering the world with a deep emptiness in my heart,
Not feeling wanted and at home anywhere.
And now it's leading me into showing myself,
Trusting in my abilities and helping others.
It led me on a beautiful journey of coming home to myself as a child of this Earth and I invite you to take that journey too.
Before we go,
I invite you to think about a personal question you would like to ask your wild self.
We will ask our wild self two questions.
Your personal question and then I'd like you to ask your wild self,
Is there any wisdom they can share with the whole of humanity right now?
Keep those two questions in your mind now as we start our journey.
To get us into the mood,
I want to share a poem with you.
Find a relaxed position,
If you want,
Light a candle or some incense,
Whatever makes you feel comfortable and relaxed.
The poem is called Sleeping in the Forest,
Written by Mary Oliver.
I thought the earth remembered me,
She took me back so tenderly.
Arranging her dark skirts,
Her pockets full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before,
A stone on the riverbed.
Nothing between me and the white fire of the stars but my swords.
And they floated,
Light as moth among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms breezing around me,
The insects and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell,
As if in water,
Grappling with the luminous doom.
By morning I had vanished,
At least a dozen times,
Into something better.
I invite you now to follow me into a guided meditation.
Close your eyes.
Imagine yourself in a place in nature that you love.
Take a few deep breaths in and out through your nose,
Deep into your belly.
At the bottom of each out breath hold the emptiness for a second before you allow the breath to come back in.
At the top of your in breath hold the fullness for a second before you allow it to flow out.
Let the out breath be slightly longer than the in breath.
With each breath you sink deeper into your body.
Check in with yourself for a moment.
Let the outside world fade away while you prepare to spend a quality moment with yourself.
How does your body feel?
Are there any tensions or pains present?
Breathe gently into those areas with compassion.
Your body does so much for you day in day out and we usually only notice what it does when it hurts.
So let's feel some deep compassion and gratitude for our body.
Now look around you.
You see a pathway appearing in front of you,
Leading into a lush forest.
Follow the windings of this path.
As you walk into the forest the soundscape changes.
There's stillness but also faint birdsong and the rustling of leaves.
Your body relaxes even further as it tunes into the nature sounds around you.
Open your senses.
Can you smell anything?
What do you see and hear around you as you walk deeper into the forest?
You arrive at a bend in the path and after the bend you find yourself standing at the shore of a small lake.
Beside you in the sand is a canoe.
You slip it into the water and take seat in it.
You slowly paddle over to the other shore.
It's not very far away and the water is calm.
Let the serenity of the lake sink into your heart as you paddle.
You feel sand underneath your canoe.
You have reached the other side.
You get out of the canoe and leave it in the sand.
Before you the path continues towards a gigantic tree.
You follow it and soon stand at the feet of that majestic tree.
You look up and watch leaves slowly sailing down to the ground.
This is a mother tree.
The ones that feed and protect all the other ones around them through their root system.
You can feel immense generosity and love radiating from her.
You bow in deep respect of that ancient and wise being.
You now explain to her that you have come to meet your wild and wise self and ask her to lead you to them.
A hole appears in the ground at the feet of the tree.
She invites you to enter her kingdom to find yourself.
You move into the hole and see a tunnel appearing before you.
There's light at its end.
The light is just enough for you to see where to step and you follow the tunnel deeper into the earth.
With each step you feel that you're going down and deeper,
Down and deeper,
Down and deeper.
You arrive at the end of the tunnel.
You step out into a clearing in a forest.
A forest below the forest.
In the middle of the clearing is a simple hut.
You walk over to the hut and step inside.
There your wild self awaits you sitting on a floor by a small fire.
They make a gesture asking you to sit down.
Take a moment now to sit with your wild self.
No words are exchanged.
You both sit there together and watch the fire burning.
How does your wild self looks like?
Take note of anything that you find peculiar or that you can relate to.
Send some light from your heart to their heart to show that you came in good intentions to rebuild your relationship.
Maybe you want to apologize that you have neglected this relationship or show your intention in other ways.
Now is the time to ask your questions.
Be open.
The answers might not come in words but images,
Feelings or sensations in your body.
Be attentive to anything that you notice.
I will give you some time now to commune with them.
Your time together has now come to an end for this time.
Remember you can always come back here to build your relationship and ask more questions.
You thank your wild self and make your way out of the hut.
Up the tunnel back to the feet of the tree.
Stand here for a moment and send golden light from your heart to the mother tree as a gift of reciprocity.
You bow to her and walk back to your canoe.
Slip it into the water and paddle to the other side.
You walk back all the way through the forest,
Back to the beautiful place you started from.
You take one last look back to the forest to send your gratitude.
And when you are ready you start wiggling your toes and fingers and come back into the room.
Welcome back my friend.
