Welcome to Disguided Imagination on finding your inner strength.
Let's begin by taking a moment to allow your body to settle into a comfortable position.
You may close your eyes.
Begin by taking a full breath in and a long breath out.
Now,
Bring your awareness to the top of your body,
Your head,
Face,
Neck and shoulders.
Notice any sensations,
Movements,
Any places where you hold tension.
Now move down to the arms and the hands.
Sense the back of your body.
Sense the front of your body.
Sense yourself seated.
Feel the contact of your body with the chair or the cushion.
Now sense your upper legs,
Your lower legs and the feet.
Notice if there are any particular places that call out for attention.
Places where sensations feel most vibrant or dynamic.
Places where there's a lack of sensation or only very faint sensations.
Now sense your whole body breathing.
Sense its movements as you breathe in and breathe out.
And then focus on your breath.
As you breathe in,
Expand your awareness beyond your body.
Imagine your awareness,
Your consciousness expanding beyond your body.
Now,
Let a tree appear in your mind's eye.
A tree.
Look at its canopy,
Its trunk and imagine its roots.
Look at the trunk.
Is it thick and strong?
Or is it thin and easily swayed?
How does the canopy look?
Do you see a broad and wide crown with green,
Dense and thick leaves?
Or does the canopy feel small and narrow?
Maybe it doesn't even have leaves but needles.
And with your mind's eye you can also look at the roots.
Do you sense the roots going deep into the soil or do they spread near the surface?
What impression does the tree make on you?
Are you happy with what you see?
If you're not fully happy with the tree,
Then invite your ideal tree to appear now.
A magnificent,
Ideal tree.
One that is big with a dense canopy full of green leaves,
With a thick trunk and roots deep into the ground.
Can you see such tree?
Now approach the tree.
Imagine how you're walking under its dense canopy.
You approach the trunk.
You lean against it and spread your arms.
You know your arms don't reach around it.
That's how big its trunk is.
Do you feel the coolness on your skin?
Feel the rough texture of the tree bark.
You sense its roots extending deep into the earth.
And as you connect with the tree,
You sense how you become strong and stable,
Just like this tree.
You know the true strength comes from the inside.
As the tree is absorbing light from the sun,
The energy moves down the tree into its roots.
You feel that energy now flowing through your body.
This energy is grounding you,
Stabilizing you,
Giving you strength,
Giving you resilience.
Be with this energy for 30 seconds.
Let this energy flow through your body,
From your crown,
Through to your feet,
Deep into the earth.
Notice how your body feels that tiny bit warmer now.
That light and strength radiates from you.
Accept that inner strength radiates from you.
And then slowly let go of the tree in your mind's eye.
Focus your attention back to your seat,
To your surroundings,
To my voice.
And when you're ready,
You can open your eyes.
