Let's notice how it is to be here just now.
We can let ourselves settle.
Moving gently.
From whatever came before.
Into this moment.
We don't need to change anything.
We're just making room to be here.
As we are.
The body can find whatever position suits it right now.
Sitting upright.
Leaning back in a chair.
Or lying down.
There's no right way to do this.
We can trust that the body knows.
How it wants to be.
The eyes can close or stay open.
Either way,
The eyes and the muscles around the eyes.
Can start to soften.
The forehead can soften too.
And the jaw.
The neck.
The shoulders.
And the rest of the body.
This softening can take place.
In its own way.
And in its own time.
We don't need to force this.
Whatever is,
Is,
Is.
And whatever doesn't.
That's fine too.
Today we are exploring what it might be like.
To lay down a burden we've been carrying.
Even for a little while.
It could be something specific,
Like a task that needs finishing.
A worry.
A role we've been playing for too long than we meant to.
Or maybe it's something we've been carrying for someone else.
And sometimes.
This heaviness is fuzzier.
There's no name for it,
But just this sense of weight.
However the heaviness is showing up.
We might notice where it sits in the body.
Maybe in the shoulders or the chest.
Or possibly somewhere else.
When we explore this heaviness a little deeper,
We may realise that it's not actually fixed into place.
At some point or another.
We would have picked it up.
And then,
Held it in place.
And what has been picked up and held in place?
Can also be set down.
We might now see what happens when we do just that.
Sitting down the burden we've been carrying.
Even just for a few moments.
We might imagine opening the hands.
Just slightly.
Letting the fingers uncurl.
Letting the shoulders drop.
A little the way they do when something heavy is finally put down.
There's no need to let go completely.
No need to decide anything about it right now.
We can merely feel what it's like.
To set down the burden for this next few minutes.
We might spend a moment wondering.
What is it like to know?
That's setting something down.
Even briefly.
Is allowed.
And now.
We can let awareness widen again.
We can notice any sounds around us.
And the space where we are.
How we are resting within this space.
When it feels right.
The fingers or the toes might move a little.
And if the eyes have been closed they can open.
Slowly.
In their own time.
Taking in what's around us.
As we carry on with the day.
Maybe we can remember.
This small permission.
We don't have to carry everything all the time.
If something feels heavy.
We can pause and set it down.
Even for a little while.
And from here.
We can continue.
In a gentler way.
