Satsang Podcast with Sri Give up uncertainty and know your true Self.
Once the human being is developed into an adult with a mind,
Intellect and ego,
There comes about a certain certainty that I am this person,
I am this personality,
I have these characteristics,
I have these strengths possibly,
I have these weaknesses,
I know about this,
I don't know about that,
I have this body that's shaped like this,
That I like this thing about it,
I don't like this thing about it,
I have relations,
I have a home,
I have possessions.
So there becomes a real certainty that this is who I am,
This is how I live,
This is what I like,
This is what I don't like,
These are the people I like,
These are the people I don't like.
And the human being continues in this way with the identity that I am this name and this form.
Now once you begin to meditate and you close your eyes with the knowledge of your own Self,
You can become aware that there is a space,
There is a state of consciousness where all of that human existence is dissolved.
Even if you haven't meditated every night when you go to sleep and you're in deep sleep,
All of those qualifications,
All of those characteristics that you believe yourself to be are gone for that time,
For six hours or eight hours every night when you sleep.
And when you dream,
In the dream state you have different characteristics,
You see different images,
Different people.
So we can see that that certainty that you have in the waking state as to who you are and what you're about and what characteristics you have and others have,
That goes away every night in deep sleep.
And when you meditate,
When you close your eyes and you watch space and there's no particular mental construct going on about who you are and what your qualifications are and what you need to do or what you shouldn't do,
Then there's just pure space.
We call that also pure consciousness,
Pure awareness.
So the human being,
Which is all of us,
Becomes confident,
Becomes sure that I am this body,
This mind,
These qualifications,
This family,
These possessions.
That certainty is there every day when you wake up.
So now we can see why this work is so difficult,
Because all the training from the very childhood has been,
You are a human being,
These are your eyes,
These are your ears,
This is your nose.
As the teacher teaches you the names of all of the physiological and physical traits of the body,
This becomes cemented,
Certain that this is who you are.
Now if we begin to examine or analyze the human existence,
We become aware very clearly that without that power,
Without that self moving through you,
None of that can come into manifestation.
The dead body is the example,
Lying there on the ground,
Does not have any identity of this is who I am and these are my qualifications.
At that point it's all given up.
No matter how much you try,
No matter how much you want to live in this body,
When the body is worn out,
When it's time for it to pass,
When it's accidented,
The dead body lying there on the ground is no longer relished,
There's no longer the sense of this is me,
This is who I am.
And all of the loved ones no longer want to keep that body around.
The body is sent to the cremation ground or buried in the ground and it's not kept in the bed next to you like a husband or wife keeps the living body there.
So what is this all about?
How can you say that I am this body with these qualifications,
These traits,
These abilities?
And then when the body is no longer,
You're not only saying that anymore,
But even the ones that have loved your body and loved your qualifications and your traits no longer want to keep you around.
And who is it that wakes you up every morning?
Whether you have an alarm clock that wakes you up,
But if you don't use an alarm clock,
You'll still wake up.
Who woke you up in the morning?
Who put you to sleep at night?
Sometimes you might try to sleep and you can't,
And then sleep just comes when it comes.
That being,
That self now is what we want to attend to and have that certainty that I am,
You are,
All is that self.
But the training and the collective consciousness of everyone around you,
Or most people around you other than those that have this knowledge,
Will be that you are this body.
You are the one who is alive and has all of these qualifications.
So the practice has to be to develop that certainty.
The last podcast I spoke about renouncing the ignorance.
So what is that ignorance?
That ignorance is that I am limited.
I am just a human being.
I have only this body and mind,
Intellect,
Ego to use for my functioning.
I receive all of my satisfaction by being with those that I love,
By attaining the desires that I have.
And as we've seen,
That there's no end to those desires and that that kind of love can be love one day and anger or hatred even the next day.
So on that level of being a human being with a body,
Mind,
Intellect,
Ego and senses,
It's up and down,
Good and bad,
Right and wrong,
The field of change.
But who is it that is knowing all of those changes?
Who is it that's there prior to your body,
Prior to the development of your ego that says I am,
That says there's me and you,
A sense of two,
One knowing and that object that's being known.
They appear to be two,
But it's really you,
That knower.
Because without you,
The knower,
No one can wake up in the morning.
No one can begin to function and even have the ability to know I am this human being separate and to know where your house is,
Who are your friends,
Who are your relatives.
Without that consciousness,
Which has to be there first,
Nothing else can happen.
But because this consciousness becomes mixed now with the physical manifestation,
The knower becomes mixed with the known,
And you forget your knower,
You forget the one that was there that allowed the body to become animated,
So you can call it a person that's alive rather than a person that's now dead.
That consciousness is who you are,
That is that true self.
And the benefit now of knowing your true self is undoing that mixture,
So you are renouncing that ignorance that's mixed with the body,
The mind,
The personality,
Saying that I am this.
And then,
Because you've now identified with your body,
You're subject to all the human emotions,
All the human changes,
And life will be sometimes a struggle,
Sometimes happiness,
Sometimes victory,
Sometimes defeat.
That's the way the human system continues.
And all the dramas will be lived out in such a way that you will suffer until you come to a place of knowing who you are.
So now,
Through meditation,
You come to know who you are that was never born into this body,
Therefore never dies,
Because that you is not the body.
Because if that you were the body,
You'd keep the dead body around.
So that you is eternal,
That you is immortal,
That you is blissful.
Now it's very difficult to become certain of that,
Because the body,
The mind,
The intellect,
And especially the senses deceive you.
Because when you open your eyes,
You see form,
You see other people around you,
You see scenery,
And then there's a sense that there's you,
And is that what you're seeing?
There's you as an individual,
And there's other people around you,
In their bodies,
In their cars driving around on the highway,
In their planes flying in the sky,
In their boats traveling on the ocean.
There are all these others.
And there's you,
Separate.
And then you have all of your sensual experiences.
I like this,
This tastes good.
I don't like this,
This smells good.
I like the sound,
I like this music,
I don't like that music.
So that I becomes cemented,
And you become certain that this is who you are with your likes,
With your dislikes.
And now,
We're flipping it around to a whole new way of seeing.
And the whole new way of seeing is I the self,
The knower,
Is who I am.
Everything else is just the manifestation of me.
Those others that appear to be driving around in their cars are all me.
Those others that appear to be driving in their boats are all me.
Not me this body,
Because the bodies are all different.
And that's where you can get trapped again.
But me the self,
Me the consciousness,
Which has chosen all these different manifestations to act from,
To interact with,
All for our joy of interaction.
All to experience the glory of that self,
Which manifests so many beautiful things in nature.
But then if we get stuck on that,
We think as if all the ugly things and the horrible things that we see in the world are not the self.
And then we try to fight to only have beauty.
But the manifestation of the self is the whole.
And the evolution of the human consciousness is such,
And we certainly see that in the world today,
That some are barbaric.
They really know higher in their consciousness than animals.
And until those souls evolve into knowing their true self,
One with all,
This will continue.
And if you want to change the world,
First you have to change your own consciousness to know your true self.
Because unless you know your true self,
Preaching to others is not going to bring about the peace that we so much want in the world.
But when you know the peace inside of yourself,
Then you become an example of someone living that awareness that knows the truth,
That knows pure,
Free,
Forever,
Is in all.
Now this might seem like a stretch.
But when you come to know who you are as that unborn being,
One with the whole,
Operating through your body in a perfect way,
Living your life as you do with all your friends and family members,
Bringing good,
Love,
Support to all.
When you know the secret to tune into that self,
And you share that with whoever comes in your contact so that they can also know that,
Not in a way that you're preaching it to them,
Because they have to be open to it.
They're not open to it,
Fine.
You just love them as your own self.
You don't have to change anybody other than yourself.
But you keep knowing who you are and remaining certain of that.
The other day I was having a satsang with some friends,
And there were some really good questions that people were posing to me,
Which were very inspiring.
And one of the questions someone asked me was on a scale of 1 to 10,
Where do you find yourself now in your awareness?
How has it grown from,
Say,
Now my answer to that question was,
If we take the example of the snake and the rope,
Which we've given many times,
That we're always,
As a human being,
Seeing that there's a snake there,
And then we're afraid of the snake,
And it's only a rope.
We're seeing that there's a body which has qualifications,
A mind which has grades,
Scales,
1 to 10,
And then we're describing that.
So it's like describing the snake.
It has fangs,
It's long,
It's thin.
But the snake is really not there.
It's only a rope.
It's always a rope.
In the same way,
The body,
Mind,
Intellect,
Human being,
Is not there.
It's a manifestation of the self.
So it's only the self.
So why would we describe that which is illusory?
Why would we begin to describe and grade 1 to 10 scales of that which is illusory?
Illusory means it's not there.
So what my answer was,
And is,
To bring the attention to that self that's undying,
Unchanging,
Immortal,
Eternal,
Right now in this moment.
There's no grade.
There's no gradation.
There's no scale.
You are that.
I am that.
All this is that.
So use every opportunity to remind the mind with that certainty,
I am pure,
Free forever.
You are pure,
Free forever.
There's never been any you other than that.
There's a you that was not born,
That will not die.
That you is what we attend to in meditation.
And that's the importance of meditation.
Because when you close your eyes and watch yourself,
Just that consciousness that's pure,
That's right there,
Right now,
You're certain that that's who you are.
And it's only when the mind comes in that says,
I have to do this,
I need to do that,
I'm afraid of this,
That you lose that perspective.
But you are always there.
So it really can never be lost.
That pure ability,
That pure life is always there.
It gives the ability to everything else.
It gives the life,
The movement to the body.
So rather than thinking,
I've lost it,
Or I have to obtain it at some time in the future,
We use every moment through meditation to know,
I am pure,
I am free,
I am forever.
Amaram Ham Madhuram Ham.
Our very name is that.
So right now you have reached it.
And every moment is now,
Successive moments of now,
Eternal presence,
Eternal moment.
So if this knowledge is covered or forgotten,
We don't want to make the mistake of thinking,
Sometime now in the future,
I'll get back to it again,
Or I've gotten it this much,
And I need to get it that much.
So right now be certain of who you are,
Pure,
Free,
Forever the same.
Amaram Ham Madhuram Ham.
That pure knower,
That pure space,
Unmixed with any form,
Any belief,
Any mental construct.
And as soon as any mixture happens,
And you're forgetting it,
Remind yourself again.
This is just another side of remembering.
If you know you've forgotten,
Then how easy it is to again remember.
Amaram Ham Madhuram Ham.
Amaram Ham Madhuram Ham.
And this successive moment of now can now continue throughout your whole day,
And throughout your whole life.
Pure,
Free,
Forever.
Amaram Ham Madhuram Ham.
So keep practicing as much as possible,
Knowing your true self.
And give up any uncertainty that you are anything other than that,
Because without you,
That consciousness,
That self,
Nothing can even move.
You wouldn't even wake up in the morning.
You wouldn't go to sleep.
You wouldn't dream.
So you are forever present.
You are that eternal existence.
You are pure,
Free,
Forever.
I am pure,
Free,
Forever.
All are pure,
Free,
Forever.
Om Shanti.
Om Peace.
Because peace is forever with you.
