Dear friend,
I know you've been struggling lately.
I know because I've felt it too,
Rippling across lands and oceans.
This unease,
As if we were all collectively holding our breath.
Perhaps you lost someone or something.
Perhaps the past has a hold on you and won't let go.
Perhaps you're afraid of tomorrow because today is full of uncertainty.
And perhaps,
On top of your own personal struggles,
You also feel the heaviness of the world on your shoulders.
And yet here you are,
Hoping,
Dreaming,
Seeking,
Healing,
Building your life day by day.
Nurturing your hungry spirit.
You're doing great.
I'm here on this pebble beach,
Surrounded by rocks,
Big and small.
And the waves keep crashing relentlessly on the shore.
They touch the stones and retreat in a perfect dance,
Just like we are touched by life's events.
But we are not made of stone.
And sometimes that relentless current of events becomes too overwhelming for our tender bodies.
We deserve a break.
I want to invite you to sit by my side and listen to the waves with me for a moment.
Hear how they crash against the stones.
The sky is grey and it's beginning to rain,
But we're still here.
And so are the birds perched on the irregular cliffs,
Who are quietly watching nature's dance.
Wave in,
Wave out.
Wave in,
Wave out.
Wave in,
Wave out.
Water is the only constant in the ebb and flow of the currents.
I feel so small on this beach,
As I observe the magnitude of the sea,
Of the sky.
A small human being surrounded by big cliffs,
Supported by the earth,
Caressed by these droplets.
It's a relief to be so small,
To remember the universe is impossibly large.
So large that all our worries become microscopic in this grand expanse of space and time.
So many other lives have touched these rocks,
Have observed these rocks,
This water.
So many lives have breathed in this small portion of the earth,
This little corner.
Breath in,
Breath out.
Breath in,
Breath out.
And so we breathe in unison with the currents,
As we have done for thousands of years.
Each raindrop,
Each wave,
Are a love letter signed by nature.
Even when the elements bother us,
There is a message whispered in the air that repeats the same word over and over.
Life.
Life.
Life.
In the cold wind,
Life.
Under heavy rain,
Life.
In the middle of a storm,
Life.
On this shore,
Life.
Among these rocks,
Life.
In our beating hearts,
Life.
And this rhythmic lullaby rocks us from side to side in the womb of the universe,
This planet where life flourishes.
Wave after wave,
Breath after breath.
You don't need to carry everything,
There is very little you can control.
Just let each wave wash over you.
Allow nature to embrace you and nurture you.
Allow yourself to be a small,
Tender human being.
Let life unfold.
Thank you for keeping me company today,
Beautiful soul.
