As you prepare for rest,
Allow yourself to arrive just as you are.
There is nothing you need to solve tonight,
Nothing you need to finish.
Begin by finding a comfortable position,
Letting your body be supported.
If it feels comfortable,
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Take a slow breath in and an even slower breath out.
With each exhale,
Imagine the day gently releasing its hold.
You might picture setting the day down,
Like placing a bag at the door,
Knowing you can return to it tomorrow.
Bring awareness to the body.
Notice the places that feel tired.
You don't need to change anything,
Simply acknowledge what has been carrying you.
And if it feels safe,
Invite the body to soften just a little more with each breath out.
Jaw relaxing,
Shoulders dropping,
Belly softening,
Letting the breath be natural.
If thoughts arise,
Gently remind yourself this can wait.
And return to the sensation of being supported by the bed or by the floor,
By the quiet of the evening.
There is nothing else required of you right now.
Rest here for a few moments.
And if sleep comes,
Allow it.
If it doesn't,
Let rest still be enough.
