This gentle, imaginative grounding meditation guides children to reconnect with their bodies and the earth through the story of a little seed growing into a tall, strong tree. Through calming breath, vivid nature imagery, and gratitude for Sun, Rain, Wind, Moon, and Stars, children learn to feel safe, steady, and centred again — especially when they’re anxious, restless, or “all over the place.” Suitable for ages 4–11, this story meditation can be used at home, in classrooms, or before bedtime to help children find their calm and balance within. Written and narrated by Jacky — teacher, caregiver, and meditation guide passionate about helping children feel grounded, connected, and confident. Hello,

I'm Jackie.

Thank you for joining me for this meditation.

Do you ever feel like your thoughts and feelings are all over the place?

That your energy isn't quite in the centre of your body?

I certainly do.

We call this feeling ungrounded.

There's nothing wrong with feeling like this.

It's just a way of It's natural and happens sometimes,

But it can make us feel like we're a leaf swirling about in the wind,

Rather than a tree standing firm on the ground.

Why does it happen?

Well,

It can happen if you're worried or upset about something,

You've got too much going on in your mind,

Or just because life is busy and hectic.

Maybe you jumped out of bed so quickly this morning that you left a little bit of your energy behind,

Still snuggled beneath the covers.

The why doesn't really matter.

The important thing is that it's easy to put our energy back into our centre,

So that we feel grounded,

Whole again,

Safer and calmer.

We're going to practice doing this right now.

Are you ready?

You can close your eyes if you want.

We're going to take a few deep gentle breaths.

Breathe in,

Out,

In.

Now that you're feeling more relaxed,

I want you to imagine a tiny seed,

Lying just under the surface of the soil.

That little seed is you,

All curled up in a tight ball.

The little seed I can see is me.

Do you know why I like to start by imagining I'm a seed?

It's because sometimes I feel very small in our big world,

A bit anxious and like some of my energy is out of my body,

And I'm a bit empty inside.

When I feel like that,

This meditation really helps me.

How's your seed looking as it rests under the soil?

Cozy and warm?

Our seeds may be small,

But there's something magical about to happen to them.

Up in the sky,

The sun is shining brightly.

Hello sun!

Thank you for shining on the soil and making it warm.

As sun shines down,

A cloud drifts by.

Can you see it?

What shape is your cloud?

Mine looks a bit like a rabbit.

From your cloud,

Gentle rain starts to fall.

Pitter-patter on the soil.

The rain seeps down into the ground,

To where your seed is resting.

Thank you rain for watering the soil.

Ooh,

Something's happening to your seed.

I see a tiny root growing down into the soil.

Down it goes from the soles of your feet into the soil of Mother Earth.

Now a little shoot is appearing.

Feel it growing up out of your little seed body,

Creeping upwards until it pokes through the ground.

As it grows taller,

It sprouts leaves.

They catch the sun's rays.

Feel the warmth of the sun on your fresh green leaves.

Ooh,

Thank you sun.

That feels good.

The sun's heat travels from your leaves,

Down your stem,

Into your seed.

Sun's energy helps your little root push down further,

More strongly,

Deeper and deeper.

See your root branching out into a web of roots,

Anchoring you firmly in the ground.

Thank you Earth for holding us so strong,

Making us feel grounded and secure.

Now your stem is growing taller and thicker.

You can stand up if you want,

As you imagine your stem becoming the trunk of a tall,

Sturdy tree.

Feel the energy rising up your roots from Mother Earth,

Through your feet and up through your body.

You grow strong branches reaching out in all directions.

Raise your arms as your branches spread.

Feel how strong you are.

Buds are forming on your branches.

See them at the ends of your fingers,

Swelling as leaves form within.

Then pop Your buds open as your leaves unfurl,

One by one.

Buds open out all over your branches and you're now covered in beautiful green leaves.

A gentle wind blows,

Rustling your leaves.

Flutter your fingers as the wind moves them.

It tickles and makes you smile.

Thank you wind for coming to visit us.

It's good to feel you in our leaves.

Still you're growing taller and taller until your branches stretch right up into the heavens,

Amongst twinkling stars and gentle moonlight.

Moon and stars are pleased to see you and promise to always keep you safe.

Thank you moon and stars for watching over us.

Here you stand as a beautiful,

Tall,

Strong tree.

Energy flowing up through your roots,

Right into the centre of your body.

And from above,

Energy flows down from sun,

Moon and stars,

Down into your centre.

Take some more gentle,

Deep breaths.

In and out.

Feel yourself fully in your body.

All your energy is centred within you.

You might want to put your hands on your tummy and feel your energy there inside you.

That's great.

You can do this meditation any time you lose that feeling of centredness or you want to feel more grounded.

If you don't have time to do the whole meditation,

You can just imagine your roots growing down into the earth,

Anchoring you firmly and sending you good energy.

I hope you enjoyed our meditation.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me and I look forward to seeing you next time.

Bye for now.
