The soul,
This essence of who and what we are has been making itself known,
Rising and leaving this misty fragrance behind that I am only beginning to now recognize as my own.
What began as quiet clues buried within my own living experience has become louder,
Louder and undeniable.
And this soul,
This essential self has been gently and persistently rearranging everything,
Clearing space so that I might finally see it.
And it is still a great mystery,
A mystery that many of us are feeling a quiet pull toward.
Dear friends,
You may have seen the title of this meditation and recognized a longing or yearning within yourself that something within you is rising too.
In this contemplation,
We'll slow down to create space to hear and to be with and to bear witness for the soul that is within us,
For the soul that is us.
So come into a quiet sitting and feel where you are.
Feel how you are being held by the ground,
By the chair,
By the sofa,
Wherever you are.
And just in this simplicity of sitting,
You are connecting with this wider intelligence and this wider sense of grounding both within yourself but ultimately surrounding you.
And take a moment here to breathe in and breathe out.
About a year ago I wrote a poem that I called Eventually and I want to share that with you.
Eventually the soul gets your attention.
After simmering for lifetimes,
It pulls you in quietly and completely.
And then come the dreams,
The visions,
The chance encounters,
The stars winking at precisely the right time.
Eventually the music gets louder,
The synchronicities unfold,
The signs become undeniable,
Divine mischief is found in every corner.
Eventually the soul no longer asks,
It summons.
You move,
You step off the edge and you abandon all that you knew.
At the time that I wrote this poem I was really feeling quite stirred up and I feel that my soul was really demanding my attention.
And it was both quiet and complete and in many ways I had no idea what was happening.
And to be summoned by the soul is perhaps not as dramatic as it sounds.
What I'm finding is that it is really this pull to come back into contact,
To create space to pay attention.
I'm sensing this feeling that the soul really wants us to inhabit it within this very embodied reality so that the boundary between what is dense and what is our physical sense and what is the soul which to me is pure and light,
The boundary between that begins to dissolve.
To dissolve until there is no distance left between us and what we truly are.
As we sit in this silence together my question to you is how is your soul asking for your attention?
How is your soul asking for your attention?
You have all the time and space to really linger with this question.
Even though there is this collective thread,
This collective soul,
There is this very individual thread of the soul that has a very particular way of speaking to us and the invitation is just to notice.
How is it wanting to speak to us?
How is it asking for our attention?
And as that becomes clearer and clearer what is the soul asking for you to remember?
In this particular moment what is it asking for you to remember?
It may be helpful to notice any responses within the body that is also a sense of communication,
Perhaps a spaciousness that is opening up or a sensation or a pulsation.
What is your soul gently asking for you to remember?
Paying attention to what it's trying to communicate and ultimately what it's calling us to remember within our own selves,
Within our own sense of story and narrative about who we are and what we are here to do.
Perhaps to close this contemplation just bringing a hand to your heart as a gesture of gratitude and remembrance of your soul,
Love for your body and this sacred home that we dwell in.
