Hello and welcome to this meditation.
About rediscovering who you are beyond the roles and the titles.
I am Rashid Zahidi,
Creator and author of The Imogen Journal,
A journal and workbook for emotional awareness and for balancing your way of life.
Find a comfortable position where your body feels supported.
You may choose to sit upright with your feet resting on the floor or you can lay down comfortably.
Allow your hands to rest gently by your sides or in your lap.
When you're ready,
Softly close your eyes and take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose.
Hold it just for a moment.
And exhale gently through your mouth.
Again,
A slow breath in.
And a long relaxing breath out.
With every exhale,
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Your job to relax.
Your forehead to smooth.
Your body becoming a little relaxed and sinking into whatever surface you are resting on.
Notice your self and your body a little calmer,
A little more present.
There is nowhere you need to be,
Nothing you need to accomplish.
For these next few moments,
Simply allow yourself to be.
Bring your awareness to your breathing.
Notice the gentle rhythm of each inhale and each exhale.
Your breath has been with you through every season of your life,
Through success.
Through uncertainty.
Through joy.
Through heartbreak,
Through beginnings and endings.
Just as you breathe.
So does your true self.
Now imagine yourself standing in a peaceful,
Open field at sunrise.
The air is calm.
The light is soft.
In front of you is a gentle path waiting to be explored.
As you begin walking,
Notice that you're carrying a backpack.
This backpack represents every role you've played throughout your life.
Perhaps you notice labels attached to it.
Employee.
Leader.
Parent Spouse.
Partner.
Provider.
Caregiver,
Maybe a business owner.
Maybe a retiree,
Maybe a student,
Friend.
Take a moment to notice whichever roles naturally appear for you.
Without judgment.
Without attachment.
Simply noticing.
As you continue walking,
You arrive at a beautiful clearing.
In the center stands a quiet wooden bench.
You gently remove the backpack from your shoulders and place it beside you.
Notice how your body feels.
Perhaps a little lighter.
Perhaps uncertain.
Perhaps peaceful.
Simply observe.
You are not throwing these roles away.
You are simply setting them down for a while.
Because today you are exploring something deeper.
Now gently ask yourself,
Who am I when no one needs anything from me?
And pause with that.
Allow whatever comes to arise naturally.
There is no wrong answer.
Perhaps only silence.
Silence is welcome too.
Ask another question.
Who am I without my job?
Pause.
And again,
Listen.
Who am I beyond my relationships?
And again,
Pause.
Who am I without the expectations of others?
Notice what begins.
To emerge.
Not a title.
Not an achievement.
Not a responsibility.
But qualities.
Perhaps you notice kindness.
Trent.
Curiosity.
Compassion.
Creativity.
Wisdom.
Patience.
Courage.
Love.
Resilience.
Notice whichever qualities feel true for you.
These are not.
Things you earn.
They are part of who you are.
No circumstance can take them away.
They're not tied to any particular job.
Or relationship.
Imagine these qualities becoming gentle lights within your heart.
Each one growing brighter.
With every breath,
They expand.
Filling your chest,
Your shoulders,
Your arms,
Your entire body.
You begin to realize that your identity was never limited to what you did.
It has always lived within who you choose to be.
Now imagine your future self walking toward you.
They look peaceful.
Grounded.
Confident.
Not because life became perfect,
But because they learned to trust themselves through change.
You have learned to trust yourself through change.
Notice that posture,
The smile,
The calm presence of your future self.
Notice your future self sit beside you.
No words needed at first,
Simply feel.
The quiet confidence.
No.
Now ask.
What do I need to remember during this season of change?
And again,
Pause and sit with that for a little bit.
Allow whatever message comes.
It may be a word,
It may be a feeling,
It may be an image.
A vision.
Or simply a sense of reassurance.
Trust whatever arises.
Your future self smiles warmly and reminds you,
You are not alone.
Beginning from nothing.
You are beginning from experience.
You have not lost yourself.
You are rediscovering yourself.
You are worthy without proving.
You are enough without a title.
Take a slow,
Deep breath as these words settle gently within you.
Now.
Visualize yourself picking up.
The backpack once more,
Notice something has changed.
The backpack is much lighter now.
The labels are still there,
But they no longer define you.
They are simply roles you may carry when needed.
You are greater than every title.
Greater than every accomplishment.
Greater than every chapter of your life.
Your worth has never depended on any single identity.
It has always lived within your character,
Within your heart,
Within your resilience.
Now,
As we prepare to return,
Bring one hand gently to your heart.
Feel it steady.
Rhythm,
A quiet reminder that beneath every role you have always been enough.
Silently.
Repeat after me.
I am more than any title.
I welcome new beginnings.
I honor every chapter of my life.
I carry wisdom,
Not labels.
My worth is constant.
I trust who I am becoming.
I release the need to define myself by the past.
I embrace this new season with curiosity and courage.
I am whole.
I am enough.
I am free to become.
Take another deep breath in.
And slowly.
Exhale.
Gently begin noticing the changes.
The surface beneath you or behind you.
Wiggle your fingers.
Move your toes.
Roll your shoulders.
And when you're ready.
Open your eyes.
Carrying this truth.
With you today.
Life may change your roles many times,
But it can never take away the person you are becoming.
Be well.
