Welcome.
The new year is such a great time to take a look at some of our old beliefs and evaluate whether they're still serving us.
The image that comes to my mind is going through our fridge and throwing away everything that's expired,
Keeping what's fresh and getting rid of old stagnant beliefs.
Let's practice releasing what feels outdated and no longer works.
Start by taking a deep breath in and out,
Feeling yourself being supported by the chair,
The cushion,
Which is supported by the floor and is supported by the building and the earth.
See if you can get a sense that you're being held.
Feel it,
Feel the support.
And we can use the breath to help us relax and soften.
When we notice an area of tension in our body or we're drifting away in thought,
We can just gently bring ourselves back to the breath and elongate the exhale and deepen the breath,
Both of which bring us back into regulation,
Back into stasis,
Into equilibrium.
Now bring to mind one belief or idea that feels limiting to you.
Maybe it's a story you tell yourself like,
I'll never change,
Or I'll always be this way and I'll never experience this.
Finding one belief or idea that we even just suspect might be limiting might not be fully true.
It's not the time to pick up our heaviest weight,
Our deepest held belief.
Something that feels like it has wiggle room to move.
Now as you inhale,
Imagine gathering this idea in your hands.
Noticing how heavy the idea is,
How light,
Does it feel worth it?
Are you surprised how little it weighs?
How easily you could throw it?
Hold this belief in your hands.
Notice what it's like in the body to hold it and if there's a desire to put it down.
Checking in with your body to see,
Do you really want to keep this?
Maybe you do.
Maybe this is not the idea that you want to work on letting go of.
But maybe you'll get a signal from your body that this is one that's worth letting go of.
So let's repeat.
Inhale,
Gather that belief or idea in your hands,
And exhale and set it down.
Put it down.
Maybe you throw it away in the garbage,
Or you gently put it down.
However your mind wants to visualize the release,
Doesn't matter.
What matters is that you're ready to set it down.
Again,
Inhale,
Gather the idea.
Exhale,
Set it down.
Inhale,
Gathering the idea in your hands.
Exhale,
Set it down.
Inhale,
Gather the idea.
Exhale,
Set it down.
Feel the lightness in your body as you let it go.
Is there more spaciousness?
Is there more room now that we've let this go?
And with each breath,
Open yourself to new possibilities.
A new freedom that arises from letting go of what no longer serves us.
Feel that.
Be with that.
Okay,
Take one more deep breath in and out.
Move side to side.
Bring yourself back to the room.
And when you're ready,
You can open your eyes and carry this freedom into your day.
