I hear this so often,
That it's not about how you feel,
That emotions don't matter,
That if you want to be successful,
You just take action,
No matter what.
You show up every day,
You do the habit,
You push through,
Even when you're tired,
Even when you're sick,
And even when everything in you says no.
And for some people,
Maybe that works.
But I realized something about myself,
And maybe you feel this too.
This approach doesn't work for me.
There are days where I really want to do something.
I sit down at my laptop,
I'm ready,
I tell myself,
Okay,
Let's go.
And then I just sit there.
And I sit there,
And I sit there some more.
And nothing happens.
No creativity,
No flow,
No clarity.
I can sit there for hours,
Forcing it,
Trying to make something happen.
And in the end,
It doesn't feel good.
It doesn't work the way I imagined.
And the next day,
I have to do it all over again.
And that's when I realized,
Sometimes it's not about ignoring how you feel.
Sometimes it's not the day to be creative.
Sometimes it's not the day you run a marathon.
Sometimes it's not the day to clean your whole apartment,
Or redecorate your entire life.
Sometimes it's just not that day.
And you don't need to fight that.
You don't need to force yourself through it just because you once decided,
This is what I do every day.
Sometimes you can do it tomorrow,
Or next week,
When the energy is there,
When the flow comes back,
When the creativity feels natural again.
That doesn't make you lazy.
That doesn't mean you lack discipline.
It means you're listening.
And that's completely fine.
Not every day is made for everything.
And you don't have to try when it's clearly not the moment.
Sometimes the most salient thing you can do is not push,
But wait.
