Counting the breath is an intentional exercise that assists in calming the mind; it is a form of mindful breathing. You can do this while lying down or sitting in a comfortable position. Take a few minutes before you get out of bed in the morning or during a break away from work to deep breathe. Surreal Forest by Meydän Music promoted by chosic Creative Commons CC BY 4.0

Transcript

Counting the breath is a form of mindful breathing,

Taking a moment to calm and ease your mind.

Find a safe and quiet space and sit in a comfortable position.

You can either lie down or sit in a chair,

Gently straightening your back.

If you feel comfortable to do so,

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

Naturally breathing in and out.

As you inhale,

Mentally count to one and slowly exhale.

Inhale again,

Counting to two and slowly exhale.

Inhale,

Counting to three and exhale out softly.

Take a moment to inhale again,

Counting to four and exhale.

Inhale again,

Counting to five and exhale out softly.

You can repeat this cycle for as long as you would like,

Counting as you go.

If you feel you've had enough,

Then take your final deep breath in,

Counting to the identified number and slowly exhaling out.

Be well and have a beautiful rest of your day.
